Be Sober And Vigilant!

1 Peter 5:8(KJV)                                                                                                                              Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

According to our anchored Scripture the devil is cunning and he wants to deceive unsuspecting and careless believers. It is clear that our adversary described by the Lord as a thief with the purpose to steal, kill and destroy is busy looking for whom to devour. It is an established fact that as we draw closer to the end of the age, there is an escalation of satanic wickedness and recklessness in all dimensions across the world. Our world is full of temptations, and we need to remain constantly alert and not forget about the dangers. It is written in Matthew 13:24-25 “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, the kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.” Our true enemy is on the watch to strike where he considers the most vulnerable point and moment.
The devil has no regard for man, he is a true enemy of the believers. He always wants to do everything possible to hinder the children of God from entering into God’s Glory. But thanks be to God who causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus. Therefore, as believers in Christ, if we want to cross the finishing line of our Christian faith, we must stay alert and be in constant prayer so that we don’t wander into temptation without even knowing we are in danger. We are therefore called to be alert to dangers which can erode and shipwreck our faith in Christ such as false teachings, worldliness, love of money, inordinate ambition, sinful pleasure, sexual immorality and all other works of the flesh. Complacency or failure to watch can be very dangerous indeed. It led to the sudden death of Samson. Sanballat and Tobiah, the enemies of the Jews, would have successfully terminated Nehemiah’s building project if not for watchfulness (Nehemiah 4). When comfort, ease and pleasure are put ahead of duty and conviction, progress is always set back. 1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 says “So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Watch for his return and stay sober. Night is the time for sleep and the time when people get drunk. But let us who live in the light keep sober, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the happy hope of salvation.”
Beloved, perilous times are here so, don’t go to sleep, but be sober and vigilant. Know the tricks of the devil and resist him with the whole armor of God. Like Adam and Eve, you can easily get entangled in attractions that make the things of this world seem “good for food, pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom”. Let all your actions be guided by sobriety and watchfulness, so that you don’t become a champion of yesterday. Live in the world, but never allow the world to live in you. Do not live your life carelessly in a time like this so you don’t end up as a casualty. Be prayerful because the devil is working overtime to make you fall. Do all you can to avoid ungodly friendships or associations. It is important to watch your life for the enemy moves about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. You may not be looking for sin but sin is looking for you. Never let your guard down against the devil. You will not be a victim of the dangers of the end time, you are preserved in Jesus’ Name. Remember, satan is your enemy of your glory, when things begin to go well for you, he will want to destroy it. That is why the Bible says “watch and pray”.

O Lord, give me the grace to be watchful and prayerful, respond to every roaring threat of the enemy against me in Jesus’ Name.
