Draw Close To God

James 4:8(KJV)

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

One of our responsibilities in fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives is a conscious effort in drawing nearer to Him. David said in Psalm 63:1-2 “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.” As Sarah Flower Adams wrote “Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down. Darkness be over me, My rest a stone. Yet in my dreams I’d be Nearer, my God to Thee! Nearer, my God to Thee! Nearer to Thee!” When a man draws near to God, He in turn, draws nearer to him and helps him to fulfil His plan and purpose on earth. It is written in 2 Chronicles 15:1-2 “And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded: And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The Lord is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.” God will stick with you as long as you stick with Him however, if we leave Him, He will leave us. Passion for God is profitable in time and in eternity. The truth is, the closer we get to God, the more He gets closer to us thereby putting our destinies under pressure to be released. Psalm 37:4 says “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
It is important to know that there must always be cooperation between man and God in order for man to fulfil God’s purpose for his life. This means, there are responsibilities we must embrace in order to reach where we are destined to reach on earth because every Divine provision has human conditions. Many people could not reach God’s ordained plan for their lives because they refused to take the responsibility and live for God. We live in a generation where there are many resistances and confrontations against the fulfilment of human destinies. The greatest attack on anyone’s destiny is sin. Sin has taken over the lives of many making it impossible for them to fulfil their destinies but God has given us what it takes. Sin has no dominion over us, all we need to do is to follow God’s precepts and fulfill destiny. Psalm 119:45 says “And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.”
Beloved, be consistent in heartfelt communion with God by living a life of prayer, studying His Word, praising and worshipping Him intimately. Draw close to God and avoid every temptation to sin. Renew your relationship with the Lord and let holiness become your motto. Endeavour to please Him in all your ways. Increase your passion for Him and remain patient when you are expecting His manifestation. As you increase your passion for God and you refuse to be overwhelmed by the things of this world, God will also reveal Himself to you in Jesus’ Name. Believe and act on everything God says to you. Remember, your closeness with God will always attract His Blessings on all sides.

O Lord, baptize me with an unquenchable passion and affection for You and let me see Your Glory in Jesus’ Name.
