2 Samuel 17:14 (KJV)
And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.
Ahithophel, once a trusted advisor to King David, was renowned for his exceptional counsel; the Bible even compares his wisdom to that of an oracle of God. Every word he uttered was perceived as divinely inspired, with his advice appearing flawless and nearly supernatural. As Absalom conspired with Ahithophel and others to orchestrate his rebellion against his father, King David recognized the potential danger of Ahithophel’s counsel in the hands of his son. During his escape up the Mount of Olives, David fervently prayed to the Lord to transform Ahithophel’s wise advice into folly. From our anchored Scripture, it is clear that Absalom made a grave mistake by rejecting the wise counsel of Ahithophel. The Lord had predetermined to thwart Ahithophel’s advice, ensuring disaster would befall Absalom. God effectively rendered Ahithophel’s counsel meaningless because he was conspiring against David, the Lord’s anointed. When Absalom dismissed his guidance, Ahithophel’s pride took a hit, leading him to a tragic end by hanging himself. Meanwhile, Absalom, the instigator of the rebellion against his father, ultimately met a miserable fate. Proverbs 19:21 says, “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless, the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.”
We are all born with a purpose, not by chance, but to fulfill a God-given destiny. No matter the evil plots, confrontations, challenges, or hardships we face, only the counsel of the Lord will prevail. The devil and his agents may have schemes, but the plan of God is far greater than any human design. What God declares about us carries more weight than anything said by any individual or entity, be it man, woman, witch, or wizard. The Word of God is unmatched, more powerful than any weapon of war, whether physical or spiritual. Isaiah 46:10 says, “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, ‘My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure.” The negative wishes, accusations, or malicious intentions aimed at our lives or loved ones hold no power. It doesn’t matter what anyone says or does; no one can say no when God says yes. No one can thwart God’s counsel; His plans and purposes are unshakeable and cannot be influenced by any external force. What God has ordained will prevail. What He has purposed and designed for us is destined to stand firm. It is written in Isaiah 8:9-10, “Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces. Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.” Whatever opposition we face today, for the Lord’s sake, we can know that the enemies of the Cross will ultimately lose.
