Where Your Treasure Is

Matthew 6:21(TLB)
If your profits are in heaven, your heart will be there too.
Although a rather short verse but it one of the powerful statement Jesus made while on earth. Jesus tells us that what we treasure shows us where our heart is! In other words, whatever we value and really care about will tell us about the condition of our heart. Treasures are highly valued objects or accumulated riches. Physical treasure has at best only short-term benefits and is capable of opening up the owner to various physical and spiritual dangers. However, spiritual treasure is of eternal value and comes from knowing and serving God.
We may claim to value God and His Word, but is that really what we treasure? Today the boldness of occults as religious bodies are growing rampant, to the extent that some pastors are also part of this group! Many have put their trust in material things and have turned their backs on God, they put work, parties, children, husbands, wives, family and all manner of things before God. In Mark 8:36, Christ asked, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, but lose his soul. While you strive for a life of your desire, remember who your enemy is, satan is his name. When our focus is shifted away from God due to wealth and the pursuit of other material empires, doom is around the corner. Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:19-20). Remember only pagans run after material things. When you tarry over material things it takes your eyes off your purpose but when you store up Heavenly things, your mind is steadfast on reaching Heaven.
Beloved, do not to conform with the world(Romans 12:2), but rather to be content with what we have(1 Timothy 6:8-9). God knows our every need and He will supply them if we have a heart toward Him. The truth is, this life here on earth will end one day and everything you stored here will become obsolete. The only bank that is truly insured is the bank in Heaven. If God is God let us serve Him well and stop all this partial service. I encourage you today to focus on God and give Him your heart. And in exchange, He will give you His trust and peace. Invest in eternal things, for such an investment is secure and the benefits everlasting.
O Lord, grant me the heart to go after things above in Jesus’ Name.
