A Determined Stand

Daniel 1:8 (KJV)

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

The Holy Bible confidently illustrates the determination of many to fulfill their divine assignments from God. They approached their sacred responsibilities with the utmost seriousness and reverence, even in the face of death. One exemplary figure was Daniel. Taken captive to Babylon, Daniel became a servant in the king’s palace. As per Babylonian custom, he underwent three years of rigorous training before being assigned his duties. During this period, the king required Daniel and the other captives to adhere to a specific diet while they adapted to the language and culture of the land. However, despite being a slave in a foreign land, Daniel stood firm in his convictions, refusing to eat the food prepared for the king, first offered to the gods of Babylon. So, he asked for a different diet. His devotion to God made him purpose in his heart not to corrupt himself with the king’s food. He knew the king’s meal would hinder him from continuous fellowship with God. His access to the Presence of God set him on the pedestal for relevance, excellence, and greatness in life. This life of discipline made him ten times better than all the wise men and magicians in Babylon.

Achieving elevated performance, productivity, or status levels is a common aspiration across various domains. Nonetheless, many individuals are often unwilling to invest the requisite effort and resources necessary to reach these heights. The cornerstone of success and effectiveness in both personal and professional spheres lies in unwavering determination and commitment to one’s goals. Determination is a lifter of life. It is a doorway to destiny fulfillment. Being resolved is a fundamental requirement for greatness in life. Without determination, there will be no success because determination makes things happen in life. Determination can change an individual into a nation. Jacob later became a nation when he refused to take a NO for an answer. When we stand on the standards of determination, we stand out. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 says, “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” Having quality alone is not enough; it is the unwavering determination to succeed that truly matters. We must adopt a mindset of relentless perseverance because, without it, we risk joining the ranks of those who never attain their goals. As Christians, we will undoubtedly face various challenges—threats, attacks, and distractions. We might encounter doubt, scrutiny, or ridicule, and feelings of vulnerability and fear may surface. However, it is precisely in these moments that we must embody the steadfast determination exemplified by Daniel. Character is forged in the fires of adversity, and while our calls and desires will be tested, we will rise to the occasion with unwavering resolve. We must remain vigilant, understanding that the devil is our greatest adversary, thriving on confusion, doubt, and fear.

Beloved, no matter the challenges, never lose sight of your goals. Make up your mind to be determined in life. Pursue your God-given dreams with vigor, even if you have tried and failed in the past. Do not be afraid because of the extreme challenges you are facing. Just remember the Lord your God, for He is great and awesome. He will do for you what no man can do. Be determined that no matter what, you will not give up. Do not let disappointment, discouragement, failure, problems, tough times, opposition, misfortune, or defeat keep you down. Do not settle for mediocrity! Stop complaining about how bad life has treated you. Push your way through and refuse to quit, for quitters never win anything in life. You may not like where you are but do not throw in the towel. It may seem like progress is slow, but if you remain steadfast and refuse to give up, you will ultimately find your peace. If you desire greatness, then do not give up. You can be small or lose in the race of life, but with determination, life will turn around for your good. As you strive with determination in all your assignments, God will crown your efforts with resounding success in Jesus’ Name. Remember, embracing an unshakeable attitude in the face of challenges is not just important; it is essential for your growth and success in your faith and endeavors.

O Lord, help me to be more determined in life. I declare the end of every inherited failure working against me in Jesus’ Name.
