Abstain From Alcohol

1 Corinthians 6:10 (KJV)

Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

The language of the above Scripture is a warning to anyone who wants to inherit God’s Kingdom. It is clear that drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God. A drunkard cannot be a part of God’s Kingdom. For this reason, drunkenness must be resisted and put to death permanently in the life of a Christian. To inherit the kingdom of God, we must bear the Name of God, like the children of God, as a bride bears the name of her husband. However, alcohol will not make us have His Name on earth. Alcohol brings intoxication, and multiple passages in the Bible are against it. Galatians 5:21 says, “Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Drunkenness is sin-natured. Subduing it is necessary because it operates in opposition to God. Ephesians 5:18; “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” As Christians, we are to be filled with the Holy Spirit, separated for God’s use because our bodies are the Temple of God. The one who drinks cannot make clear decisions. So, as children of God, if we want to achieve greatness in life and have all our dreams come true, we must let go of alcohol.

Alcohol consumption as a coping mechanism for life’s challenges is not a healthy solution. Many claim that it makes them happy and enables them to relax from the pressures of life. In reality, they are only avoiding facing the challenges of life. Isaiah 5:11 says, “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!” Drinking alcohol brings woes(curses) to the drunkard. It makes the down-to-earth talk rapidly and continuously in a foolish way. Alcohol can make us lose our willpower and self-esteem. It can shift our focus and disconnect us socially and emotionally or lead to poverty, death, and unhappiness. Habakkuk 2:15 says, “Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!” Not only is it sinful to drink alcohol, but it is also a curse to offer it to others. Anyone who gives it to their friends or family members is cursed. So, when we organize parties, weddings, funerals, and other social gatherings, alcohol is not to be served because it places curses on those administering it. No wonder many marriages are falling apart because many are cursed even before they leave the marriage ceremony.

Beloved, abstain from alcohol, for it destroys life and destiny. You cannot control the influence of alcohol; it rules over whoever takes it. Never give room to satan to rule your life through alcohol. Stop looking at it, no matter how alluring it might seem! It will bite you like a serpent. Don’t hang around those who drink or talk about alcohol. Let your name never be found anywhere alcohol is present. Never offer alcohol to your friends or family, for it brings curses. Refuse to take anyone to hell because you will give an account of what you did on earth. Today, take a stand against drunkenness, seek help, keep your heart with all diligence, and renew it daily with the Word of God. Make up your mind to be intimate with God. Avoid a life of drunkenness and maintain a life of worship. Remember, being drunk with alcohol offers only evil and hell, so flee from it.

O Lord, give me the grace to make my body a dwelling place for Your Presence. Help me not to defile my body with alcohol in any way, in Jesus’ Name.
