Abstain From Alcohol

Proverbs 20:1 (KJV)

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Based on the Scripture mentioned above, it is evident that alcohol is a mocker, and those who partake in it lack wisdom. Essentially, only the foolish indulge in alcohol, leading themselves and others astray from wisdom. The consumption of wine can lead to excess, giving a false sense of happiness that ultimately results in dissatisfaction and a craving for more. The consumption of alcohol can lead to impaired cognitive function and irrational behavior, increasing the likelihood of engaging in sinful actions. Those who indulge excessively in wine become controlled by its influence, allowing it to dominate their actions. Thus, as children of God, to pursue greatness and fulfill our dreams, it’s essential to refrain from alcohol because alcohol brings drunkenness, and multiple passages in the Bible are against it. For example, Ephesians 5:18 says, “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” As Christians, we are to be filled with the Holy Spirit, separated for God’s use because our bodies are the Temple of God. The language of 1 Corinthians 6:10 is a much stronger warning: “Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” A drunkard cannot be a part of God’s Kingdom. For this reason, drunkenness must be resisted and put to death permanently in the life of a Christian.

Alcohol consistently provokes and antagonizes those who misuse it, often leading to confrontational and aggressive behavior. Conversely, wisdom is demonstrated by the ability to resist the allure of alcohol. Despite life’s challenges, seeking solace in alcohol is not a wise choice. Considering the ease with which habitual consumption of alcohol can develop, it is prudent to abstain from alcohol altogether. Isaiah 5:11 says, “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!” Alcohol consumption inevitably results in intoxication, precipitating uncontrolled and senseless speech. It unequivocally undermines willpower and self-esteem, fostering social and emotional detachment and potentially culminating in adverse consequences such as curse, impoverishment, and mortality. Habakkuk 2:15 says, “Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!” Drinking alcohol is believed to be sinful, and offering it to others is thought to bring about a curse. Those who distribute alcohol to their loved ones might be believed to bring a curse upon them. Therefore, in social events such as parties, weddings, funerals, and other gatherings, it is advised to refrain from serving alcohol in order to avoid potential curses. This practice is connected to the belief that many marriages fail due to the curses incurred during the wedding ceremony.

Beloved, abstain from alcohol, for it destroys life and destiny. You cannot control the influence of alcohol; it rules over whoever takes it. Never give room to satan to rule your life through alcohol. Stop looking at it, no matter how alluring it might seem! It will bite you like a serpent. Don’t hang around those who drink or talk about alcohol. Let your name never be found anywhere alcohol is present. Never offer alcohol to your friends or family members, for it brings curses. Refuse to take anyone to hell because you will give an account of what you did on earth. Today, take a stand against drunkenness, seek help if needed, keep your heart with all diligence, and renew it daily with the Word of God. Make up your mind to be intimate with God. Avoid the life of drunkenness and maintain the life of worship. Remember, being drunk with alcohol offers only evil, so flee from it.

O Lord, help me not to defile my body with alcohol in any way in Jesus’ Name.
