Avoid Going Into Debt

Deuteronomy 15:6 (KJV)

For the Lord thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.

From Scriptures, we understand that God owns the earth and all the resources in it(Psalm 24:1), and He takes pleasure in the prosperity of His people. It is the ultimate desire of our Father to see that we are all blessed, lacking nothing. He wants all His children to dwell in His blessings and not live their lives at the mercy of unbelievers and lenders. God’s Word says that we are to lend to nations and not borrow, adding that His blessings make us rich and add no sorrow(Proverbs 10:22). As believers in Christ, we need to acknowledge that true and enduring wealth only comes from God. Deuteronomy 8:18 says, “But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.” God has a covenant in place that empowers us into realms of financial fortune. God’s Covenant of monetary prosperity is as binding as His Covenant of any other, and He always remembers. He gives us the power to get wealth and He is the source of all supernatural supplies.

It’s important to understand that the battle for our finances is a spiritual battle. It is the enemy’s device to keep people from prospering and its strategy to embarrass God’s children. The enemy tempts us to spend more than we can pay off so he can keep us under pressure and distracted from our walk with God. Debt is a common problem in our society, and debts have a way of growing faster than expected. It is one of the things that Christians must deal with and disallow in their lives. Debt is when an individual or an organization purchases a product or service and agrees to pay in the future. That is, debt is credit buying and has no respect for anyone. Debt is easy to enter into but sometimes hard to get out of it. It comes through greed, covetousness, and demonic attack. Debt is an anti-covenant practice that disconnects people from supernatural supplies. It puts people in bondage and creates worries, a thief robbing people of their money, time, and peace. Debt is a destroyer of progress. Proverbs 22:7 says, “The rich ruleth over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender.”  Lack of faith, patience, maturity, ungratefulness, and the fear of tomorrow are reasons many will borrow, and because of this, many are now slaves to their creditors. Many of us are servants to Visa-card, Master-card, Discover-card, and so forth. The powerful creditors of today tell us that they are here to better our lives, but the truth is this, they have weakened our faith in God. It is so hard for us to accept this message, but we are so dependent on our creditors, and the more dependent we are, the farther and weaker we become when it comes to our faith in God. The Word of God is emphatic, Do Not Borrow. It is also written in Romans 13:8, “Owe no man anything, ……….”

Beloved, have the faith to believe that you can live without borrowing because borrowing or debt is an attack on your future. Borrowing will never solve your problem. It will only tighten the chains it has on you. It has its pressure and is like a heavy stone on your chest. Anyone that borrows is not free. You may act as if you are free, but everything you own belongs to somebody waiting for you to default. So, avoid going into debt. Endeavor to live within your income. Develop a saving culture and prepare a budget based on your actual monthly income and actual expenses. Don’t fall into the trap of trying to live above your means, rather stay out of debt by living within your boundaries, then watch God expand them. As you look at your situation right now, you may not be able to see how you could ever get out of debt, much less stay that way. You may not know how you would ever be able to do much of anything without borrowing money. But with God, all things are possible. There’s no debt too big and no business too complicated for Him to handle. Trust Him to manage yours, and He will bring you out on top, and you’ll never have to be a slave to debt again. If you fear and obey the principles of God for wealth creation, poverty and borrowing will become a thing of the past in your life. If you’re deep in debt, go before the Lord right now and ask Him to forgive you for getting out of His will. When you repent, He will be with you to help you come out! He has the way to freedom, prosperity, and to where you can lend and not borrow! Remember, do not borrow because disobedience to the voice of the Lord is like witch-craft

O Lord, thank You for Your Word. Today, give me divine wisdom to manage my financial resources to avoid debt in Jesus’ Name.
