Consequences Of Disobedience

Leviticus 26:14-16(NIV)

But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands, and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.

The above Scripture shows the danger of disobedience to the Word of God. It makes it abundantly clear that disobedience is a deadly enemy of destiny. In other words, every time people agree to disobey God, they have also accepted to abort their glorious future. Disobedience is rebellion and distrust of God. Disobedience is neglecting God’s leadership and going our own way. It is choosing to lean on our own understanding instead of trusting God with all our hearts. To be disobedient is to yield to self-will instead of surrendering to God and desiring His Will. It is the reason behind people’s inability to hear from God; we are cursed when we live in disobedience. It keeps us from doing what God has called and anointed us to accomplish in life. It hinders us from experiencing the sense of peace God wants us to enjoy as we find rest for our souls in Him.

The consequences of disobedience are numerous. The Lord brings sudden terror, wasting diseases, and fever that will destroy our sight and lower our strength. Disobedience will make many plants their seeds in vain, only for their enemies to eat them. When we live in disobedience, things we have long conquered will come up again. In 1 Kings 11:11-14, God raised against Solomon, an adversary, because he did not keep God’s covenant and decrees, which He commanded him. Anytime we disobey God, we open access for the devil to come against us. When we go astray, God sometimes brings in the oppressor to bring us back to Himself. However, continual disobedience at such times will only result in perpetual displeasure from the Almighty. Ephesians 5:6 says, Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things, the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. It is vital to know that it was a lifestyle of disobedience that dislocated the destiny of Adam and Eve; they disobeyed God and aborted their future. The same spirit of disobedience robbed Samson and the young prophet of the grace to end well. Disobedience is on the rise in our world. Most Christians know how to spiritualize their disobedience. They think they are dealing with man; they say things like “God understands.” In our society today, men are marrying men, women are marrying women, and murder and divorce are at an all-time high. The rise of religions that hate God, occult, and witchcraft have increased. In our lives today, men have reversed the law of God, which gave free and easy access to God and His provisions.

Beloved, do not agree with anyone to disobey God, even if it is your pastor or boss at your place of work. Regardless of who you are, where you come from, and whatever you might think, your essence here on earth is to obey and worship God, and in agreement with Him. Check your life and find out those things hindering you from becoming the best that God wants you to be. Drop them now before they make you drop out of the journey to your Promised Land. Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart as you did in rebellion. The sure way back to His favor is sincere repentance and humble return like the prodigal son. Consciously ask God for forgiveness if there is an area of disobedience in your life. And He will abundantly pardon and restore you unto Himself again. Make God the priority of your life above everyone and everything.

O LORD, I ask for the grace for absolute obedience and dependence on You in Jesus’ Name.
