Divine Direction Brings Provision

1 Kings 17:9(KJV)

Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

Divine direction is one of the keys to the blessings of God. With the drought in the land and Elijah’s life at stake, God was sure to provide for Elijah’s needs. First, God used ravens, rejected and stingy birds, to bring Elijah his necessary food. God then sent Elijah out of Israel to a foreigner, a widow in Sidon. Don’t miss the strangeness of the event, for a widow is commonly known as a poor and needy woman. Whenever God wants to bless an individual, He sets the fellow up for the blessing. When Elijah was to be blessed, God chose the widow of Zarephath. Likewise, when the widow was to be blessed, she was set up by the demand of the prophet Elijah. He asked her to prepare him a meal before hers, even though only one meal was available in the house. And the Bible says in 1 Kings 17:15, “she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house did eat many days.” The widow gave all to gain all by the direction of Elijah, and they survived for the duration of the famine(1 Kings 17:10-16). God used the prophet to preserve the widow’s life. The source of our solution is God Himself, and He can use anything He created to be a source of provision for His children.

It is impossible to fulfill one’s destiny without divine guidance. Access to it is one yardstick we can use to determine whether we are sheep in the fold of Jesus Christ, the Great Shepherd, or goats in the fold of the devil. It is central to our walk with God, as it determines the status of our relationship with Him. Divine direction is not for those that walk by sight but for those who will trust God to lead them. By following Divine guidance, we can live a contented life and remain protected from evil. Psalm 32:8-9 says, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.” Where there is no direction, there is a disaster, minimal progress, and absolute frustration. Many Christians have missed the best because they question every instruction and how it can’t be done. One of the worst things that can happen to a Christian is to go against Divine direction; it is like standing on a naked wire with full electric power running through it. 2 Peter 1:21 says, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” Any church whose instructions we cannot obey, we do not belong there, or any pastor whose counsel we cannot carry out, we do not belong there. It will be far better if we leave in peace. King Saul lost the throne to David because he refused to obey simple instructions from God through the prophet Samuel(1 Samuel 15:22-23).

Beloved, draw wisdom from the past and trust God to the point of not withholding from Him whatever He asked you to surrender to Him. Value Divine direction and comply with what God has told you to receive more guidance from Him. Keep a sensitive and tender heart before God as you allow Him to direct your path. Take no step outside of Divine direction, for God, is only the One who knows what is ahead. He is the One who can rightly guide and direct. The wise thing to do is to repose less trust in yourself and trust more in God and His Word. Obey the Word of God. Without obedience, it is impossible to be in the correct position for God’s miraculous provision. God can use whoever and whatever means He wants to care for His people. God’s power can reverse things you cannot see, but you must be willing to exercise your faith. As you surrender to God from today, you will always have more than you bargain for in Jesus’ Name. Remember to always ask God for His help and direction at the place of prayer.

O LORD, I ask for the grace to value Your direction above any other thing and pursue it in Jesus’ Name.
