Psalm 133:1(ESV)
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!
The importance of the concept of unity cannot be over-emphasized, as God works and moves mightily among His united children. Unity is divine and a powerful, unstoppable force. The children of God are to live in blameless unity. Unity is a characteristic that distinguishes God’s people. We derived this characteristic from the nature of God in us; therefore, God expects us to manifest unity through a commitment to one another. When unity exists between us, tremendous powers are made available, and the impossible becomes possible. The Word of God says in Matthew 18:19, “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” Nothing is impossible for us when we are united in spirit, soul, and body. In other words, unity can accomplish almost everything on the face of the earth. Genesis 11:6 says: “The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language, they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.”
We currently live in a world where unity is lacking. The wolf hunts the buffalo not because the wolf is strong nor it is not for lack of strength on the buffalo’s part. One on one, the buffalo is stronger than the wolf. However, because the buffalo will not unite to fight wolves, they become weaker because the wolves are united. Christians and families not willing to stick together have made us timid. This lack of knowledge has destroyed many lives. John 8:32 says, “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Many Christian churches are known for their disputes and divisions. Rather than live in unity, harmony, and corporation. Even in the church pews, we find division and fractures. We have Christians fighting one another, telling lies against each other, and doing all manner of evil to get ahead. At workplaces, Christians who should be united are gossiping and backbiting against each other. Instead of being united and helping one another, they are always looking for others’ mistakes to report to their superiors for termination. The most shameful of all is when Christians join forces with unbelievers to fight other Christians. Unity is a beautiful thing, and until we as Christians unite as one against the common enemy, the devil, we will always become the weaker ones. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, “An enemy might be able to defeat one person, but two people can stand back-to-back to defend each other. And three people are even stronger. They are like a rope that has three parts wrapped together—it is very hard to break.” Whenever the devil discovers our broken chain, he exploits it. However, if Christians stay united, the devil and his agent can’t destroy us. Remember, united we stand and divided we fall.
Beloved, life is more fun and exciting when you learn to work together, share things and watch each other’s back. Unity will make the oil flow unhindered, so walk in oneness. Ephesians 4:3 says, “Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” Do everything you can to stay united, for the blessing rests in the place of unity. There is a bright future ahead of you. God has promised unlimited and mighty things, but they can only come to pass when you work to stay in unity. When you live in harmony, whatever you cannot do to yourself, you will not do to anyone. Learn to forgive one another and seek reconciliation. Be each other’s keeper! Remember, in the days of Esther, the death sentence on the Jews changed by the power of unity.
O Lord, I humbly ask for the spirit of unity in Jesus’ Name.
