Forget The Past

Isaiah 43:18(KJV)

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

The Scripture reminds us not to keep going over old history, we are to forget about what happened. For God to do the supernatural in our lives, we must forget about the past. In other words, God’s manifestation is difficult when we keep dwelling in the past, we are not ready to receive when we keep considering the history. God did put the eyes of us in front for a simple reason; He wants us to always look forward to Him to do a new thing in our lives. Looking to the future provokes the manifestations of God. For instance, as long as Egypt could not leave the minds of the Israelites, they could not enter the Land of Canaan. The Promised Land was ready for them but they were not ready for the Promised Land because they kept dwelling in the past. The Israelites came out of Egypt but Egypt did not come out of them. As a result, they wandered through the wilderness for forty (40) solid years before reaching the Promised Land. What we focus our attention on in life often determines what we see. In other words, what we see influences our attitude and ultimately affects whether we succeed or fail. Philippians 3:13 says, “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Focusing on the things in front of us is the best rule for all Christians. Thus, where we are going is more important than where we are coming from! Looking forward makes us more focused in life. God’s eternal purpose for our lives is to press ahead and not look back. His manifestation becomes scarce when we are not focused. When drivers look forward when driving, it takes them to arrive safely at their destinations. For example, in Genesis 19:17-26, the angels of God instructed Lot and his family that they should not look back while running away from Sodom. But Lot’s wife was carried away by the pressure and care of this world. She was carried away by the material treasures she had left behind in Sodom. When she went against the instructions and turned back, she became a pillar of salt. Looking back has huge repercussions; many have lost it because they kept looking into the past. The one who looks back misses out on what is in front. It doesn’t matter what happened in our history; it’s time to forget the past. Many people have lost their miracles and blessings because they took their eyes off their goals, not focused or determined. They gave in to impossibilities as they journeyed through life.

Beloved, to look back is to be distracted. Losers look back. Do not look back to your past hurts. No serious driver looks back whilst driving ahead. Accidents become unavoidable due to the distractions of looking back instead of forward. STOP dwelling in the past and prepare yourself for the future that God is taking you to. To embrace the past is to be detained in the past. On the other hand, to hold on to the future is to be retained in the future. Dragging yesterday into today makes arrival tomorrow impossible. You cannot access your future until you forgive and forget the errors, mistakes, missed opportunities, hurts, and pains of the past. Looking back, the devil will show you discouragement and disappointment. When you look back, you will see regrets and mistakes, and when you look around, you will see distractions, but when you look up, you see victory, triumph, and hope. The truth is, there are some friends around you that you may need to put behind. You don’t hate them, but they do not add good things to your life. Today, look straight; be focused on God and His purpose for Your life. Focus on pleasing God and stop chasing shadows. As you forget what lies behind you and press forward, you will see the abundant life the Lord has in store for you! Trust that God has a better future for you, believing He’s working behind the scenes on your behalf. Replace the thoughts of the past with Divine Promises about your future, and be diligent about it. Receive the grace to drop the past to reach where God wants you to be in Jesus’ Name. Remember, you cannot walk backward into the future, so never allow your past to bury your future.

O Lord, I receive the grace to always fix my eyes on what lies before me in Jesus’ Name.
