Psalm 23:5(KJV)
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
In Psalm 23, David paints a beautiful image of God as our good and faithful Shepherd Who leads us by still waters and guides us into the way of peace. He is the One Who upholds and protects, restores and comforts, Who bountifully provides good things for us in the presence of our enemies. We understand from verse 5 that God set the table before David and put everything in its place. God was so lavish in pouring His goodness into David’s life that his cup could not contain it. His heart was overflowing with divine provisions. No wonder David, in Psalm 13:6, said, “I will sing unto the LORD because he hath dealt bountifully with me.” After God had blessed him beyond measure, he began to testify of God’s goodness through songs. God prepares our tables not behind but in the presence of our enemies. In other words, the enemies were there, they were alive, but God paralyzed them, letting them know we are bought by the Blood of Jesus and under His protection.
God anointed David and promoted him; hence, he ruled among his enemies. As Christ’s ambassadors, we are constantly the target of all arrows from the pit of hell. However, God has anointed our head with oil, and our cup runs over. The anointing oil poured over our heads is the calming presence of His never-ending love. The anointing makes it well for us because God reigns in our lives. This anointing guarantees our protection from the evil of this world. Having been made kings and priests in Christ, we have a guarantee that God’s Word is trustworthy, and His promises are ‘Yes’ and ‘Amen’ to us all. Though afflicted, pressured, perplexed, and persecuted on all sides for righteousness’ sake, we are not forgotten or abandoned by our Heavenly Father, who is with us always and forever, even to the end of the age. He has prepared a table before us in the presence of those that hate and despise us, and He has covered it with all we need and every spiritual blessing – which Jesus purchased for us through His blood on the cross of Calvary. Leviticus 25:18 says, “Wherefore ye shall do my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety.” If we obey God’s commandments, we will live securely in the land, for going through our struggles with Him makes the journey better. Oh, how wonderful! As long as we remain Christians and do His commandments, we are secured no matter what comes our way, for God protects and defends His own! Only a kind, considerate Shepherd satisfies the thirsty and hungry sheep with an overflowing abundance.
Beloved, this year, all your enemies will leave you alone, and right in their presence, you will reach where God has planned for your life. Before their eyes, you will eat and have abundance because God will give you a crown that no one can take away. You are not permitted to lack any good thing at the table set before you by the Almighty. There is no scarcity in Heaven, for God has promised to open the windows of Heaven to pour His blessing on those who obey His commandments. With His goodness comes new anointing, and He becomes your Supplier, Provider, and Defender. He keeps death, sorrow, failure, defeat, and shame far from you. Not only does He ensure it is well with you as a person, but He also ensures it is well with everything that concerns you. God will give you a fresh realization of the overwhelming abundance He provides. No circumstance can keep His goodness and loving kindness from you. Your cup will only run over when you live for God, a life acceptable to Him. In this season, no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper! Just as it is hard to detain the eagle in the forest, so will no enemy be able to stop you if you are living a life that attracts the Anointing of God. God will definitely prepare a table before your enemies. Remember, God has prepared a table before you in the presence of your enemies, has anointed your head with oil, and your cup runs over.
O LORD, baptize me with the fresh oil that will cause my cup to run over in Jesus’ Name.
