2 Chronicles 23:14-15 (KJV)
Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said, Slay her not in the house of the LORD. So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house, they slew her there.
Athaliah, the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, was married to Jehoram, king of Judah. Driven by her insatiable lust for power, she seized the throne after Jehu slew Ahaziah, eliminating the entire royal family to secure her reign by killing all the king’s sons and grandsons. However, one-year-old Joash miraculously escaped her wrath. Jehosheba, the baby’s aunt and the wife of the high priest Jehoiada, bravely hid the infant Joash and his nurse for six years during Athaliah’s rule. Athaliah’s actions were aimed at extinguishing the line of David and thwarting God’s covenant, but she underestimated the divine purpose at play. Believing her rule was unchallenged, the high priest Jehoiada organized guards around the temple and crowned the young Joash as the rightful king. The people joyfully cheered, “Long live the king!” When Athaliah learned of this, she dashed from the palace, shouting, “Treason! Treason!” Jehoiada commanded the troops to capture and execute her, bringing an end to six years of tyranny. Athaliah’s death heralded the dawn of Joash’s reign. Jehoiada’s actions exemplify the courage and commitment of God’s people to uphold His authority, even when confronting evil head-on.
Throughout the Scriptures, we are reminded that the triumph of the wicked is fleeting and ultimately leads to sorrow. Time and again, individuals in positions of power, wealth, and authority behave arrogantly, acting greedily and trampling on the rights of the underprivileged. Job 20:4-5 says, “Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth, That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?” Those who resort to violence and deceit to undermine others will be held accountable, for God despises injustice and wickedness. Regrettably, many fail to learn from history or the events unfolding in society, persistently engaging in the same wrongful acts that God warns us against, only to encounter despair and turmoil. God is steadfast in His promises, and He will intervene against anything that threatens His covenant. Ecclesiastes 3:17 says, “I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.” As Christians, we are called to trust in God’s timing and justice, understanding that life’s challenges, injustices, and moral dilemmas are part of a greater divine plan. By acknowledging that every action awaits its time of judgment, we are inspired to live responsibly, embrace patience, and uphold our faith in God’s ultimate authority.
Beloved, draw strength from the assurance that, regardless of your current circumstances, there is an end to wickedness. Every affliction, pain, and manipulation will cease; poverty, sickness, and all difficulties you face are temporary. No temptation or trial lasts forever, so do not be deceived into believing your struggles are endless. Just as the darkest night inevitably gives way to dawn, good will triumph over evil. Stay steadfast in your walk with the Lord, ready to stand for truth and act decisively when righteousness calls. Trust in God’s timing, even amidst challenges, for He will guide your path. It may seem as though wickedness holds sway until the very last moment, but do not be misled. In that critical hour, God will intervene on your behalf. The victory over the wicked and oppressor is near, for God, as a Righteous Judge, will rectify all wrongs in due time. Shun the allure of wickedness and greed, for they are not worth your attention. Be discerning about what threatens God’s work within you, for not everything that seems powerful is meant to dominate. Invite the Lord to examine your heart and remove any trace of evil. Commit to studying the Word daily, guarding against temptation. Remember, God will eliminate anything that undermines His purpose for you, as no evil action goes unnoticed by Him, and ultimate justice will be fulfilled, even if it takes time to manifest.
O Lord, help me eschew every form of evil and wickedness. Give me the courage to remove what opposes Your will and restore Your order in Jesus’ Name.
