Jeremiah 23:23-24(ESV)
Am I a God at hand, declares the LORD, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the LORD.
It is clear from the above Scripture that nothing is hidden from the sight of God; everything is laid bare before His Eyes. The warning is that we cannot hide from God. We can’t outrun or fool Him. Everything we do is visible to Him. In our relationship with God, we experience far greater exposure to accountability than anything surveillance cameras or other cameras may see. Proverbs 15:3 says, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” God sees all and everywhere. His eyes are upon our every activity, our every word, our good works, and our wicked works. The encouragement is that there is no place on earth or in the heavens where we are outside the watchful care of our Heavenly Father. Even when we feel alone, God is with us. As children of God, we need to find joy in knowing that God is keeping a watch over us.
In this life, God knows the intentions of men, and the thoughts of their hearts are open to Him. All our actions and inactions are wide open before Him. For example, to cover up their lies, some people tell other lies, which leads to yet another endless circle of lies until they are exposed. The shame is always more devastating than the effect it would have had on us if we had said the truth initially. Hebrews 4:13 says, “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” The wicked may think they are getting away with the evil done, but God’s eyes are on them. Piling up our sins, at best, only soothes the situation at that moment, but it doesn’t bring a solution because all are naked to God. All the sins we have committed, the wrongs dispensed and displayed with wanton attitude are open to God, and we will give an account. In any case, to what extent can we hide sin? For how long can we cover up our evil deeds? All those sins are laid bare before God, who we must give an account one day. Proverbs 28:13 says, “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” To enforce the fulfillment of God’s Promise in our lives, we must have a heartfelt cry for mercy through genuine repentance of those sins we have committed. It is interesting that some children of God are living with the doctrine that knowledge, truth, and morality exist in relation to culture, society, or historical context, where what is right or wrong depends on the justification, they have for them. However, Jesus plainly taught in Luke 13:2-5 that except they repent, they would perish like those who went before them. God does not want anyone to die in their sins but wants us all to repent(2 Peter 3:9).
Beloved, if you do not want to end in regrets both in time and in eternity, be committed to what matters most in life. Thinking that you can hide away your sins from God is living in a fool’s paradise. All things, including sins, are naked and open before God; nothing is hidden. The next time you feel tempted to sin in secret, imagine the eyes of God looking at you from all directions. Be aware that God is watching you from all angles. If only you imagine the number of eyes monitoring you, you would be conscious of the fact that nothing you do is hidden! Ask God to give you the kind of heart that will allow Him to show Himself strong on your behalf. He is ready to forgive you if only you are willing to come to Him just the way you are, confess and forsake your sinful ways, for He will not reject a broken and repentant heart. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. Your appointed day of mercy comes when you humbly ask for it from the One who is rich in mercy. As you go about your duties today, you must depend on God, whose eyes are upon your ways, and restrain yourself from sin. No matter where you go today, may the awareness of the truth that God is watching, encourage you to choose obedience to His Word and receive comfort—He watches over you. To you who’s heart is not faithful, He knows your every deed, and to you who seeks to please Him, He knows you are sincere and will show mercy. Remember, nothing is hidden from the eyes of the Almighty God!
O Lord, give me the grace to live right for Your Glory as You deliver me from the evil way in Jesus’ Name.
