Deuteronomy 31:3 (KJV)
The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath said.
Our anchored Scripture is part of a speech delivered by Moses to the Israelites just before they entered the Promised Land. Moses, nearing the end of his life and preparing the Israelites for their transition into the Promised Land, reassured the people that God Himself would lead them into the land of Canaan, ensuring their victory over the existing nations. God promised He would not abandon His people even in the face of impending battles. Moses also specifies that Joshua will be the one to go before them as their leader, as commanded by God. His speech boldly reaffirms God’s unwavering promise of support and guidance to the Israelites, while decisively establishing Joshua as his rightful successor and leader of the people. This transition in leadership is not just significant; it powerfully embodies the continuity of God’s direction and the fulfillment of His promises to the Israelites. Just as God promised to go ahead of the Israelites and prepare the way for them, He also goes before us in our journeys, never leaving us alone, for He is always working on our behalf. Psalm 44:3 says, “For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.”
In our journey of life, our success relies not solely on our own abilities but on the faithfulness of God. God’s role as a divine warrior assures us of victory as we take possession of our inheritance. In the darkest moments of life, the assurance of His Loving Presence gives us confidence that we are not alone. The Lord goes before us, leading the way into uncharted territory. He knows the path intimately and never forsakes His children. When we face challenges or uncertainties, we can trust that God is already there, paving the way and preparing a path for us. Deuteronomy 20:1 says, “When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.” No matter how overwhelming challenges may appear, God is with us. When we allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by fear, worry, and pressure, we hinder our ability to invite God’s victorious intervention. While challenging and doubt-filled situations will always arise, we must boldly counter these doubts with steadfast faith in God as true victory manifests His power. God acknowledges the struggles of His children, and He is also powerfully engaged in confronting those battles on their behalf.
