Psalm 98:1,4(KJV)
A Psalm. O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvelous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
In Psalm 98, David admonishes that we sing a new song to the Lord, for He has done marvelous things including victory. Throughout this Psalm, David recounts these wondrous things: God’s faithfulness and justice to all nations, His mercy, and salvation. He suggests that the whole earth erupts with jubilant noise to worship and sing praise to the Lord. In his life, David felt compelled to sing praises and give thanks to the Lord everywhere and every time. He cultivated the habit of giving thanks to the Lord, singing praises to Him, and speaking of His wondrous works. No wonder David never lost any battle, and God’s Presence was mighty in his life because he was always singing a new song to the Lord. Psalm 40:3 says, “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” God gives new songs to His children, and He expects us to sing these songs when there is an occasion of triumph. Whenever God performs His great and wondrous works, we are to sing with joy to Him.
Singing praises to God helps us remember the marvelous and extraordinary things He has done in our lives, including His judgments and decisions. It is the perfect time to recall His wondrous works and give God thanks. Dwelling on who God is and what He has done can fill our hearts with songs of praise. And it is one of the most effective tools that can shift our emotions during the dark seasons of our lives. Making a joyful noise to the Lord has the power to almost instantly transport us from the pit of complaint and despair to a realm of the highest praise. It prompts God into instant action, changing the spiritual climate around us and manifesting His Presence. Praising God brings His Power down into our situations and gives us the needed victory. The Apostle Paul always chose to thank and praise God in very demanding circumstances. God told him to go to Philippi. But shortly after arriving, he was arrested, beaten, and thrown into prison. However, he and Silas sang praises to God even amid a painful situation, and God changed their circumstance(Acts 16:1-40). In Exodus 15:21, Miriam, Moses’ sister, sang back to the joyous congregation, saying, “Sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.” After witnessing God’s extraordinary intervention on their behalf, songs of triumph filled their mouths, and they sang, even without any rehearsals. It is written in Psalm 103:1-2 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits”. When we sincerely forget not the goodness of God in our lives, irrespective of the things we have not yet attained, we will not cease to appreciate God at all times. We are who we are in Christ because of the goodness of God. God has been so good to us. He healed, provided, delivered, restored, destroyed our enemies, and gave us victory. He has never ceased to be faithful, merciful, and kind to us. So, no matter how challenging our situations may be, we should remember God’s faithfulness, sing praises, and thank Him for past blessings.
Beloved, choose the correct ally, the Mighty One, and sing many songs of praise to Him. Learn to praise and give thanks to God at all times and in all things. Always sing songs of praise to the Lord, and don’t spend time waiting for the next big thing before you praise. As you follow David’s suggestions, you will count your blessings rather than your defeats and problems. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him, and your life will never be the same. Find time and reasons to sing praises and give thanks to the Lord no matter what is happening in your life. As you remember and recount the goodness of God, you will soon overcome the trials and hardships you are going through. And your tests will turn into testimonies. Today, remember God’s miracles, signs, and wonders and serve Him. Praise Him, for He is worthy to be praised. Tell someone something marvelous God has done for you. Your story may encourage someone and help them notice something they would have otherwise overlooked.
O Lord, thank You for Your wondrous works. I will always declare all Your Goodness and Wondrous works in my life in Jesus’ Name.
