Psalm 59:16-17(KJV)
But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defense, and the God of my mercy.
The Scriptures leave no doubt that our ultimate purpose is to praise God ceaselessly. From our anchored Scripture, we are to praise God even when going through trials and troubles. David learned to praise instead of panic, to worship instead of worry. When David wrote this Psalm, his life was in great turmoil as king Saul sent soldiers to his home, hoping to capture him and take him prisoner. David’s eyes remained fixed on God despite his circumstances, and his heart overflowed with songs of God’s strength and love. Despite the problems and tensions surrounding him, David did not become obsessed with them. Instead, he placed his focus on God. He reminded himself of God’s power, love, and the hiding place that was available to him in God. David knew that with God as a Shield, he was safe from any assignment of evil that would rise against him. He was more willing to praise God than worry about the attack on his life.
Praising the Lord in songs is one of the easiest ways to terminate the evil works of the devil and his agents. It is also one of the most powerful ways to change our lives. Praise is not what we do after a miracle but what makes the miracle happen. When we praise God, even while facing a challenge or difficulty, we show Him the extent of our faithfulness and trust. It is written in Habakkuk 3:17-19 “Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer,[a] able to tread upon the heights.” Singing praises should fill our hearts daily, no matter our circumstances, especially when walking through seasons of great trials and hardships. Praise God in the storms, through the battles, and when life gets complicated and more challenging. When we do not have the words to praise, we find Scriptures about praising God and use them to praise.
Beloved, genuine praise is beyond singing, dancing, or lifting hands in church. It is a total surrender to God and being open to Him. As you yield yourself to praise, I see God overwhelming you with His Glory in Jesus’ Name. Make up your mind to reach a point where you can boldly praise and thank God for His goodness. When you are in a situation with no way out, praise the Lord until He manifests Himself in your case. The storms of life will come, but don’t let them disturb your peace or affect your thoughts and emotions. Endeavor to praise God always because when you appreciate Him, your life does not remain the same; it increases. Choose to fill your heart with words of praise and thanksgiving for God. Turn your eyes to Him and allow Him to surround you with His love and strength. Rest in the shade of God’s promises! Rejoice in His power and love today as you wait for His direction amid your needs. Miracles or no miracles, you are an example of God’s mercies and loving-kindness. Therefore, you are to come to Him daily, fall on your face at His feet, and give Him praise.
O Lord, give me the grace always to praise You in all situations in Jesus’ Name.
