Implications Of Doubt

2 Kings 7:19-20(KJV):

And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof. And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.

The account from the above Scripture conveys the sad story of the royal officer who tried to make sense of the ability of God by his restricted mind. Elisha promised that within 24 hours, the economic situation in Samaria would completely turn around. The city would go from scarcity to abundance, causing a drastic drop in food prices. However, the officer doubted the reason in Elisha’s pronouncement on the speedy provision that God was about to bring upon the land of Samaria after a period of great famine. He doubted the power of God, the creativity of God, and the man of God and paid dearly for his unbelief. He saw the blessing of abundance as the man of God predicted but could not partake in it as earlier announced. A hungry but jubilant mob trampled upon him. The prediction about the officer turned out to be accurate, just like the forecast about food prices in Samaria’s markets. Due to the officer’s lack of faith, he missed God’s blessings while others received them.

Doubt may appear simple, but it has devastating spiritual implications. It is an arrow of the devil devised to steal God’s purpose and provisions for the lives of His children. The devil plants doubt in our minds, hoping it will cause us to oppose God. Doubt is active opposition to faith and is responsible for many unanswered prayers and unfulfilled promises among believers. When we dwell on our doubts, we get stuck in a cycle of distraction. Instead of focusing on God, we become fixated on our challenges. We start to give more weight to our doubts, which distracts us from the fact that we serve a mighty God. This increased focus on suspicion can make us feel like God is letting us down. Living in doubt makes it impossible to see God’s Word or Promise come to pass. Limiting God’s ability with our little understanding and limited mind will always lead to destruction. Those who still doubt God’s existence or His ability to do all things only rob themselves of partaking in His miraculous works. That is, anyone who lives in doubt will not receive anything from God. The Israelites who doubted God in Numbers 13:26-33 also denied themselves the pleasure of entering the Promised Land, as they all perished in the wilderness. That is what doubt does in the life of a person.

Beloved, I encourage you, therefore, not to doubt God. Your doubt will not diminish God; it will only rob you of His plan, purpose, provisions, and miracles for your life. Do not give up on God! Trust Him and let your faith in Him and His Word be strong, for with Him are all things possible(Luke 1:37). He can do more exceedingly and abundantly above all that you ask or think(Ephesians 3:20). Today, the best you can do is to completely hand over your life to Him for provision and fulfillment of His Promise, and allow Him to work out the details. At the same time, you walk with Him in righteousness. Refrain from claiming you believe in God if you have doubts and uncertainties. Instead, it is advisable to declare with conviction, “Lord, I believe.”I may not always understand, but I trust You.” This season, God, by His Mercy, will overrule your doubts and give you that expected miracle in Jesus’ Name! Remember, God wants to take on your worries and offer comfort and peace.

O Lord, destroy every root of doubt in my life. I connect to faith in Jesus’ Name.
