Ingratitude

Luke 17:17-19(NLT)
Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.
Ingratitude is a character trait that manifest itself as a lack of appreciation or thankfulness due for a favor received. One of the characteristics of the last days is a lack of thanksgiving, according to the Bible wicked people will be ungrateful(2 Timothy 3). Ingratitude makes a man remember God only in the times of adversities but forget Him in prosperity. It is the height of ungratefulness that man who has benefited immensely from the blessings of the Creator would look Him in the face and complain that this same God has done him little or no good.
Ingratitude blinds our eyes to God’s work in our lives, Jesus after healing the ten lepers, only one of them returned to appreciate God for the healing, the remaining nine were ungrateful servants. This shows us the proportion of the grateful to the ungrateful in our era, out of every ten persons that God does something for, only one normally returns to give glory to God. This disease of ungratefulness has found its way to our churches today, where a brother or sister will open their heart, serve and support only to be called a thief and other unprinted names knowing they are falsely accusing the brother or sister. Ingratitude made the nine lepers not to see what God did for them. And if you cannot notice what God has done for you, you will never see what He wants to do for you.
In today’s world, there are many grumblers but few thank givers. Ungrateful people always complain and that displeases God(Numbers 11:1). When God miraculously delivered the of children of Israel from the cruel hands of Pharaoh and their tormentors and was leading them to the Promised Land under supernatural circumstances that guaranteed Angelic guidance, protection, victory in war, feeding and prosperity, and instead of giving thanks to their Maker they became ungrateful. They complained endlessly about their lives until the Fire of God burnt and consumed them. This is what happens when we complain instead of giving thanks to God for all things.
As believers, we must beware of ingratitude because it shuts us off from God’s blessings. Many people have despised the Hand of God in their lives and have missed the greatness that lies ahead. Many people have received miracles, however like the other nine lepers, refuse to give God thanks for His Wondrous Works or testify about the Goodness of God. Be like the one who returned to Jesus to give thanks to God, so that you will be completely restored. Remember, ingratitude does not make us whole. My counsel is, see the good in everything and thank God for all things.
O LORD, terminate every evil attitude that has accommodated ingratitude and open my eyes to see Your works in my life in Jesus’ Name.
