John 19:30(KJV)
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost.
Interestingly, the last thing Jesus said on the cross was, “it is finished.” He triumphantly cried loudly as a declaration of victory over the devil and his agents. It looked like the end, and all was over, but He was basically saying to His Father, “I have done My part by completely fulfilling all the righteous requirements for the salvation of mankind.” Even though it looked like the end in truth, it was only the beginning for God to finish what He had started in humanity. To pay the price for our redemption, our Lord was sorely beaten, rejected, mocked, and above all, nailed to the cross to fulfill the written word concerning Him. John 17:4 says, “I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” Finished here means, Completed, Ended, Done, or Perfected. In other words, Jesus glorified the Father by completing the work given to Him by the Father to do. He voluntarily chose to sacrifice Himself, knowing His death would pay the penalty for our sins and create a way for us to become right with God and have a relationship with Him.
At the cross, the Great Exchange took place for every believer to live a victorious and peaceful life. As a result, the eternal debt owed for the sin was paid in full. God the Father looked upon His Perfect, Precious, and Priceless Son as if He had lived a filthy, detestable, sin-stained life in exchange for the sins of humanity. Genesis 3:15 says, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” God kept His Promise to crush satan’s head through the bruising of His Son. Isaiah 53:10 says, “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.” Therefore, Jesus died on the cross to restore us to God. The Blood of Jesus brought reconciliation between God and man again. And now, through the Blood of Jesus Christ, we have full access to God the Father.
