And he left all, rose up, and followed him.
One of the greatest privileges on earth is being called by God and serving in His Vineyard. When Jesus called Levi, he left everything behind, his past, his street thugs, and his tax collection booth, without hesitation. He chose to forsake worldly wealth, recognizing that no amount of money could fill the void in his life, but Jesus could. The decision to follow Jesus was clear for Levi; the rewards of this new path far outweighed anything he had previously experienced. As His disciples, we too must embody an unwavering zeal for God, dedicating our lives fully to Him. Mark 8:34 says, “Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” To follow Jesus means prioritizing His commandments over our personal desires. Loving God wholeheartedly ignites a deep passion and zeal for all that concerns Him. Our true commitment to God, rather than merely seeking His blessings, distinguishes His genuine children from those who are not.
Though not all of us are called to leave family and friends behind to serve God as full-time missionaries, each of us is invited to follow Him wholeheartedly. In surrendering everything, we discover true purpose, joy, and ultimately, Him. As believers, prioritizing the will of God above all else is essential, as His commandments guide our understanding of right and wrong. By following His lead and staying close, we can be transformed through our relationship with Christ. Many forget that our dedication to God shapes our journey. However, too often, people place jobs, relationships, and other worldly concerns above their devotion to Him. Levi exemplifies true commitment by leaving everything to follow Jesus, reminding us that His call demands a prompt and heartfelt response that reshapes our lives. Those lacking dedication cannot fully follow Him, often choosing comfort over commitment. In following Jesus, we may face storms and challenges, but we are called to persevere. Matthew 6:33 assures us, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” This promise reminds us that prioritizing God’s Kingdom leads to an abundance of blessings.
Beloved, the fellowship you choose shapes the outcomes you experience in life. You cannot follow in the footsteps of Jesus and end up as a loser. When you dedicate yourself to service, God’s blessings will flow into your life, for the best of God responds to the best in you. You can’t put God first and find yourself last. He has not called you to mock you, but to elevate and beautify your life. When you work for God, your enviable personality will shine, even in a world that may seem indifferent. Decide to act boldly on behalf of God while others remain lukewarm. Your past and present circumstances do not define you, for what truly matters is that God desires you to follow Him. Don’t let the opinions of others sway you. You are exactly who Jesus wants by His side. When you hear His call today, be like Simon, Andrew, and Levi: leave everything behind and follow Him. In your journey of discipleship, you may face discouragement, but stand firm in your calling. Choose to represent God as you take action in following Jesus. It’s time to reevaluate what it means to be a true disciple, step out of your comfort zone, and rise up, regardless of the cost. Remember, while the road may be narrow and fraught with challenges, the rewards of following Him, eternal life, peace in the storm, and a significant role in the advancing Kingdom of God, are beyond measure.
