Psalm 90:12 (KJV)
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Throughout the Bible, we discover that our God is a God of times and seasons. He is the Creator and the Maker of all things, and time belongs to Him. God actively fulfills His promises in alignment with the seasons of life, and He grants each of us the gift of time to wield as we choose. How we manage this precious resource directly influences our journey and achievements. In essence, time equates to life; mastering its use propels us toward a fulfilling existence. The value we place on time significantly shapes our true worth. Therefore, we must seize control of our time to reach our goals effectively. This is why Moses wisely prayed for God to teach us to number our days on earth, empowering us to make the most of every opportunity presented to us. Life is fleeting, and each day is a gift from God. By asking Him to teach us to “number our days,” we acknowledge our dependence on Him for guidance in living meaningfully. It’s a call to focus on what truly matters—growing in faith, loving others, and serving God’s purpose for our lives. When we embrace this mindset, our days become more intentional, and our hearts are enriched with wisdom that shapes our priorities and decisions.
One powerful truth held by successful people is their mastery of time management. Time is not just important but a priceless asset we must fully appreciate. It is irreversible and irreplaceable, reminding us that we can only waste or spend it—never store, save, or preserve it. Therefore, how we spend our time directly influences the results we achieve in life. Engaging in unproductive activities ultimately yields no results. Among all things in life, time is the easiest to squander. A lifetime can slip away before we even realize it. The reality we must acknowledge is that the finish line draws nearer with each passing day. Seconds turn into minutes, minutes into hours, hours into days, and days into weeks. Weeks morph into months, months into years; before we know it, years accumulate into a complete lifetime. Job 14:1-2 says, “Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.” The transience of life compels us to maximize our time and live wisely, fully aware that our time on Earth is limited. This understanding drives home the fact that our days are numbered, and we operate with a ticking stopwatch that counts down against our activities. Embracing this reality empowers us to make every moment count and focus on what truly matters. Therefore, be wise to pay attention to Hebrews 13:14: “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.”
Beloved, decide not to waste your time. Make every second of your life count by investing it in profitable living. Seize every opportunity that comes your way, because time waits for no one. Keep a clear vision in front of you to prevent falling into the trap of time wastage. You have just one life to live, and how you choose to use it will determine your success. Tomorrow is inevitable, and it will arrive regardless of whether you have completed today’s tasks. If you live carelessly, you will face the consequences. Dedicate your time to studying the Word of God and actively winning souls for His Kingdom. Be intentional about numbering your days and adding value to your life by serving the Lord with sincerity. The essence of life comes down to fearing God and obeying His commandments. Avoid procrastination, idleness, and aimless socializing. Don’t succumb to distractions when opportunities arise; recognize that they won’t always be available. Take charge of your time and maximize each day, ensuring that no day ends without a remarkable achievement to showcase. Write down your plans and navigate your day with purpose.
