Living To Please God

1 Thessalonians 2:4 (KJV)

But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

Apostle Paul inspires us to rise above the temptation of seeking human approval, urging Christians, especially those in authority, to focus on faithfulness to God, who knows the motives of our hearts. The Scripture emphasizes our commitment to serving God with integrity rather than chasing after praise from people. We are called to align our lives with the message we share, presenting it boldly and compassionately to those around us. God’s expectation for our service on earth is to please Him, serving excellently and without hypocrisy. He invites us to view every chance to influence others as a divine responsibility. Therefore, let us do all things to the glory of God, remembering our allegiance is to Him. Galatians 1:10 challenges us: “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.” Our purpose in faith is clear: to please God above all. When our hearts are filled with self, there is no room for His presence.

In a world often driven by popularity, the challenge is to present the truth with integrity and remain steadfast to the Gospel. Its purpose transcends human approval, for it honors God. When we seek to appease others, we risk straying from God’s commandments and opposing His purpose, thus becoming adversaries to His will. The story of King Saul in 1 Samuel 15 serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of prioritizing people over God. Such hypocrisy leads to insincerity, for true service requires a heart aligned with Christ’s will, as highlighted in Ephesians 6:6. If we cherish human praise more than divine approval, we have yet to grasp the essence of serving the Lord. Service performed with mere eye service will ultimately fall short of Heaven’s standards. A genuine love and fear of God compel us to obedience, regardless of the opposition we may face. When we choose to please God, we root our actions in the desire to honor Him, staying true to our faith and prioritizing what truly matters in His sight. By seeking His approval, we can live in ways that glorify His Name. The Gospel is a sacred trust; our mission is to communicate it faithfully, embody it authentically, and maintain pure motives before God, who understands the depths of our hearts.

Beloved, you have been entrusted with something precious: the truth of God’s Word and the opportunity to reflect His love to others. Learn to please God always. The greatest measure of a faithful life is not the applause of many, but the sincerity of your heart before God. Strive not for human approval but for His, for it is not your appearance to people that matters, but your standing before God. Choosing God’s approval over the approval of others empowers you to live with confidence and courage, as you follow His will for your life. Invest your time and energy in understanding how God sees you. Even when your faithfulness goes unnoticed, your service to the Lord shines brightly, for He sees your heart. Cease the negativity towards those who serve God wholeheartedly. Serve God and please Him alone. If you sense remnants of eye service in your life, repent and embrace a new path. Devote yourself to pleasing God, and you will continually flourish and enjoy His preservation. If entrusted with the Gospel, let your life be a living testimony, embodying love, compassion, and honesty in every moment. Commit to speaking and living out the Gospel with integrity. When your heart aims to please the Lord, you can stand firm even amidst disagreement. Your goal is not to win the approval of everyone, but to honor the One who has called you. Let your words be sincere, your actions honest, and your motives pleasing to Him. Remember, you don’t need the approval of all to remain faithful to God.

O LORD, deliver me from pleasing people and give me a heart that is pure, motives that are honest, and a life that reflects the Gospel in Jesus’ Name.
