Longing For God

Psalm 84:2 (KJV)

My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

Psalm 84 represents a longing for fellowship with God, emphasizing the deep connection between worship and spiritual truth. The Psalm delves into the significance of spending time in God’s presence, offering an insightful perspective on spiritual communion. The Psalmist beautifully expresses his deep longing to be in the Presence of God. It’s a heartfelt cry for communion with the living God, a desire beyond mere ritual or duty. The Psalmist’s soul beats, and pants after the Presence of God, and his heart expresses his passion for God. The Psalmist knows that the few days spent in God’s Presence are better than the thousands he’s endured outside of it. Psalm 143:6 says, “I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land.” When we yearn for God’s Presence, we tap into a secret of usefulness and strength. David’s devotion to God was more brutal than anything else; his thirst for God made him seek God early, even in a dry and thirsty land (Psalm 63:1-3). Changing his mind was not an option for him. He desperately wanted to be in the Presence of God, to worship Him, and to give Him the praise He is due.

It is undeniable proof of our dedication to God that we have an unwavering passion for Him. This unquenchable thirst or hunger cannot be satisfied by anything else. Our devotion to God surpasses any worldly possession or earthly achievement. In our pursuit of God, every aspect of our hearts must be undivided and not distracted by the various activities, fantasies, and deceptions of this world. Our hearts are like sunbaked land, crying out for the Presence of the Lord. When our devotion is directed towards the Lord, we will undoubtedly possess a wholehearted and unwavering desire to join His children in worship. John 4:13-14 says, “Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” As children of God, our desires should be more of God, to know Him more, and to come to the full measure of the stature of Christ, for only God can water our poor souls with His presence, truth, peace, and salvation. This unwavering passion for God is a commitment that we must uphold, a dedication that we must maintain.

Beloved, let your soul continue to long for the courts of the Lord, and your heart and flesh cry out for the living God! Refuse for your heart to be divided in the pursuit of God. Pursue God with focus and unity of the heart. Learn to please Him at all times and how to dwell with Him in eternity. Make up your mind to be interested in what interests God. Today, long for more and more of God with an uncommon passion for more of His glory. Your hunger and thirst must be on the increase. Be willing to give up anything to remain righteous—pant for His Word and Presence more than ever. Study the Word and pray consistently. Refuse to live an ordinary life; do all you can to affect your generation. In your dedication to God, the devil and his agents must recognize that you passed through this world and were ready to stand for God. You need to be desperate enough to cut off your right hand if that will cause you to sin. Reach out to God and allow your thirst for Him to grow in intensity as never before. The stronger the desire, the more of Him you will experience; He will quench every thirst in your life. The more of Him you have, the less room there is for the world and its baggage! Stretch your hands to Him and allow your thirst for Him to drive you closer daily!

O Lord, I ask for an unquenchable passion for You and Your purpose for my life. Help me to seek You at all times in Jesus’ Name.
