Love As A Daily Choice

1 Corinthians 16:14 (KJV)

Let all your things be done with charity.

From our anchored Scripture, Paul emphasizes the vital truth that everything we do must be rooted in love. Love is the very foundation of our lives as believers, empowering us to thrive. We are called to love one another with genuine affection, delighting in honoring each other. With complete humility, gentleness, and patience, we bear one another in love. Together, we are a united body, inseparably joined in a spirit of unity and love, building one another up. Through love, we showcase a prevailing attitude toward each other and all humankind. To know God is to love as He does. Therefore, let us boldly continue to love one another, for love flows from God. Anyone who loves is truly a child of God and knows Him. God demonstrated His love for us by sending His only Son so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is the essence of real love, it’s not that we loved God, but that He first loved us, sending His Son as a sacrifice to remove our sins. Given such profound love, we are inspired to love each other confidently. Though no one has seen God, if we love one another with conviction, He lives in us, and His love is fully expressed through us.

In a world often marked by division, competition, and individualism, we are called to love not just during special circumstances or when it is convenient, but instead, let love infuse all our interactions, endeavors, and pursuits. When we speak and act from a place of love, we become instruments of peace, reflecting the character of Christ. Jesus boldly commanded the scribes to love their neighbor as themselves. The Bible makes it clear that love is revealed through action, especially in the interest of others. If we love our neighbors, we will not lie, cheat, or harbor hatred toward them. We cannot claim to walk in love while defiling our neighbor’s daughter or committing acts of violence. True love precludes envy, hatred, pride, selfishness, or wickedness. Many fall into the trap of lying and engaging in harmful actions against others. Consider how it feels when someone lies about us to ruin our reputation. Gossip and talebearing have torn families and communities apart, causing collateral damage that is often immeasurable. Imagine the hurt if someone were interested in our spouse or tried to disrupt our home. Think about the feeling of being stolen from or cheated in business. Sadly, many lives have been lost because of the actions of others. Our love for our neighbors is a testament to our love for God, so let the love of God fill our hearts wholeheartedly. Colossians 3:14 says, “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfection.” Charity opens our hearts and expands our perspectives. It encourages us to rise above our self-centered tendencies and lift those around us.

Beloved, as God has showered you with His love and care, extend that same love to others, considering their feelings and well-being. Let us move beyond mere words and showcase our love through our actions. Allow every word to resonate with love and truth, uplifting and encouraging rather than tearing down. Let love motivate every action you take; even the best deeds lack value without it. Your love for God and humanity serves as a powerful weapon against your true enemy, satan. In every interaction, whether with fellow believers, non-believers, friends, enemies, or strangers, let your conduct reflect this profound love. Let love infuse every aspect of your life, for in all you say, do, or think, let it be grounded in love. Be mindful of how your actions affect others; imagine yourself in their shoes. Treat everyone as you would your own and embrace love as a guiding force. Practice kindness, love deeply, and refrain from thinking you know it all, for the future is uncertain. Elevate others in your perspective, embodying humility rather than seeking glory. Remember, let every action stem from a selfless, sacrificial love that prioritizes the well-being of others above your own.

O Lord, shape my heart with love in my words and actions. Teach me patience, kindness, and humility so that all I do reflects You in Jesus’ Name.
