1 Peter 4:8(AMP)
Above all, have [a]fervent and unfailing love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins [it overlooks unkindness and unselfishly seeks the best for others].
The above Scripture is of great importance because it says love covers us. Not only does it cover all our sins, but love covers every area where we feel naked and ashamed. Apostle Peter’s underlining of love in the above Scripture came from one who had experienced the deep love of Jesus. And he, in turn, stressed the importance of love in our relationships with the words “above all.” The intensity of the verse continues with the encouragement to “love each other deeply because love covers over a multitude of sins.” Solomon also wrote in Proverbs 10:12, “………, But love covers and overwhelms all transgressions [forgiving and overlooking another’s faults].” The best definition of love can be found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
Love is the most significant force in life because it is strong as death, and many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it. Love is the most wondrous thing in the world because of its warmth and its all-embracing inclusiveness that takes in all kinds and conditions. As Christians, we are to love one another. Love is a noble rule in Christianity. It is written in 1 John 4:8, “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” Love has its root in God; we are the objects of God’s love. The deep love Jesus demonstrated through His death on the cross frees us from the debt for our sins and opens the way for our reconciliation with God. God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. God saved us because of His infinite love for us. As Christians, love is a blanket to be graciously and courageously given away for the comfort of others. As recipients of such great love, let us be givers of the same. Love is a sacrificial act because God’s love for us empowers us to love others. The love of Christ, the bond of perfection, must always rule our hearts. A crucial aspect of love is its ability to forgive and let go of any offense before it occurs. No matter the wrongdoing, true love forgives all as if it never happened, and it does not keep a record of wrongs.
Beloved, choose love every day of your life because love covers our differences and offenses. It overlooks another’s wrongs and makes allowances for their weaknesses. Let brotherly love continue, for the love of God in you will never fail. If you are struggling today with a feeling of being uncovered in any way, be encouraged to know that love will cover you completely, for that is what love does. It always protects. Let us embrace the love of God in our lives. Today, your love walk must be hot, on fire, and boiling over, not lukewarm, cold, or barely noticeable. Live with a commitment to abide in love, for when you live in love, you dwell in God. It guarantees a life of greatness, dominion, excellence, health, and ceaseless victories. As you celebrate Valentine’s Day today, consider beyond your love for your spouse or children by also loving God and all humanity. I desire that you will know more of God’s love today than yesterday, and tomorrow will be a new opportunity to experience more of His unending, amazing, eternal love. Remember, charity allows you to touch other lives, promote peace, forgive, and comfort others.
O Lord, let me understand Your love more each day and give me the strength always to walk in love in Jesus’ Name.
