Psalm 42:1-2 KJV
As the hart panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: When shall I come and appear before God?
The Scripture makes it clear that David’s heart beats and pants after the Presence of God, and his thirst is the expression of his passion for God. He uses the picture of a deer searching for a deep-water channel to quench its thirst to describe how he felt about God. David’s soul felt parched and dry, which made him cry out for the Presence of God; his thoughts of God kindled in him with burning desires. David operated with an unquestionable passion for God; he compared his yearning for God with how the hart pants after the water brook(Psalms 63:1-2). Changing his mind was not an option for him. He desperately wanted to be in the Presence of God, to worship Him, and give Him the praise He is due. Psalm 84:2 says, “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.” He was so addicted to God. Jesus said in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
We know that in life, understanding is significant to outstanding performance in any endeavor. When we understand why we should do something, doing it becomes very easy. Our dedication to God with our undivided passion for God becomes easy if we can comprehend why we seek Him. Seeking after God with the whole heart is not having a heart that follows the world in one part and follows God in another. But a heart that beats and pants after the Presence of God and united in the pursuit of God. It is that unquenchable hunger or thirst that is unconquerable. Devotion to God is coming to the point where no amount of worldly possession or height of earthly attainment in this world can take the place of your pursuit of God. In pursuing God, every department of our hearts is to be united and not divided or distracted by several activities, fantasies, and deceit of this world. Our hearts are much like that parched land, nearly audibly crying for the Presence of the Lord. Without Him, the heart and soul are parched, cracked, dry, and non-productive. John 4:13-14 says, “Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” As children of God, our desires should be more of God to know Him more and to come to the full measure of the stature of Christ.
Beloved, your love for the things of God is proof of your dedication to Him. Refuse for your heart to be divided in the pursuit of God. Pursue God with focus and unity of the heart. Learn to please Him at all times and how to dwell with Him in eternity. Make up your mind to be interested in what interests God. Today, long for more and more of God with an uncommon passion for more of His glory. Your hunger and thirst must be on the increase. Be willing to give up anything to remain righteous. Pant for His Word and Presence more than ever before. Study the Word and pray consistently. Refuse to live an ordinary life, do all you can to affect your generation. In your dedication to God, the devil and his agents must recognize that you passed through this world and were ready to stand for God. You need to be desperate enough to cut off your right hand if that will cause you to sin. Reach out to God and allow your thirst for Him to grow in intensity as never before. The stronger the desire, the more of Him you will experience; He will quench every thirst in your life. The more of Him you have, the less room there is for the world and its baggage! Stretch your hands to Him and allow your thirst for Him to drive you closer daily!
O Lord, I ask for an unquenchable passion for You and Your purpose for my life. Help me to seek You at all times in Jesus’ Name.
