Contend With The Wicked

Proverbs 28:4 (KJV)

They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

Our anchored Scripture speaks to the importance of following God’s guidance and the impact of our choices on moral integrity, even when it’s challenging. It highlights the danger of abandoning God’s teachings. We inadvertently support or align with negative influences and behaviors when we neglect or reject divine wisdom. By following God’s instructions, we stand firm against moral corruption and uphold integrity. When we fail to adhere to God’s Word, we not only compromise our own integrity but also enable the disobedience of others, often by justifying their actions. This creates a clear divide between ourselves and those who uphold the righteous principles in the Word. In contrast, when we wholeheartedly pursue obedience to God’s Word, we effectively confront the disobedience of others through spiritual correction and rebuke, standing firmly alongside those who are committed to living out the righteous law of the Word. Ephesians 5:11 says, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” If we compromise God’s commandments in our lives, we praise and endorse the wicked by agreeing with them against God. Instead of applauding the wicked, we exalt righteousness and condemn sinners by showing the virtues of godliness.

Our love for the Word of God is directly proportional to our commitment to contend for the truth. Those who cherish God’s law stand firm against the wicked rather than praise them. Engaging with those who oppose God may pose challenges, but believers who truly love the Lord and His Word refuse to remain silent in the face of wickedness; they boldly proclaim God’s righteousness. Upholding the law challenges and confronts the wicked while abandoning it serves to praise them. Unfortunately, many Christians today are becoming increasingly hesitant to speak out in morally corrupt societies. If the wicked perceive compromise or inconsistency in our lives, they are emboldened in their folly and rebellion. They find comfort in our silence, believing we are no different from them, allowing them to continue down their evil paths unchecked. It’s disheartening to see believers facilitating the spread of vile agendas instead of standing firm against them. However, those who genuinely love the Lord must not remain silent. We must make powerful declarations and exemplify truth and wisdom through our actions. Jeremiah 20:9 KJV says, “Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his Word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary.” Despite his reluctance, Jeremiah found it impossible to hold back God’s Word. He describes God’s Word as a fire in his heart and bones, emphasizing the powerful and consuming nature of his calling. We are to share God’s Word despite the hardships and resistance we may face.

Beloved, strengthen your resolve to resist negative influences by immersing yourself in God’s Word and seeking His wisdom in all your decisions. Strive to be a positive example of someone who follows God’s wisdom. Prioritize God’s wisdom and remain steadfast in your commitment to His teachings. Seek strength in God’s Word and lean on Him to continue your journey with faith and determination. Submit yourself to the lesson of God’s grace, and you are thereby empowered to keep the righteous law of God’s Holy Word. Examine whether you are endorsing or excusing the wickedness of the wicked, for such conduct is sinful disobedience to the righteous law of God’s Word. Do not deceive yourself that being under God’s grace grants you the freedom to forsake the law of God’s Word. Live with the conviction that you know the Creator! Embrace the truth that you were created for God’s glory, and recognize that He has the authority to define the purpose of your life. Glorify Him in every action and proudly proclaim Him as your Maker. It’s straightforward to reject evolution when you stand firm in your beliefs. Remember, if you turn away your ears from hearing the Word of God, even your prayer is an abomination before God.

O Lord, help me to faithfully follow Your instruction and resist the temptations and influences that lead me astray. Give me the wisdom and strength to stand firm in Your truth in Jesus’ Name.
