Remain Steadfast In The Lord

Psalm 37:7 (KJV)

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Psalm 37 unequivocally instructs us not to be troubled by the actions and prosperity of the wicked, for they will surely face the consequences of their deeds. Despite encountering the wicked and their schemes in various aspects of life, we are unequivocally urged not to be distressed, as doing so only leads to more harm. Instead, we are confidently encouraged to find unwavering peace and patience in the presence of the Lord, even amidst overwhelming circumstances. These words of David have been a great source of comfort to many who have felt overwhelmed by the challenges posed by wrongdoers. Although they may appear to prosper compared to the righteous, knowing that God has a plan for our lives is reassuring. While we may not have complete control, entrusting ourselves to Him brings peace and security, as we know He can intervene in any situation. Rest in this context denotes the cessation of activity, the embrace of peace, and silence. To achieve success, we must diminish the velocity and cacophony of our lives, cultivating a better ability to disengage from the distractions of the world in order to be receptive to God’s will and His workings in our lives, particularly in situations where it seems that the unrighteous are thriving. Psalms 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

God’s promises guarantee His children tranquility and serenity in His Presence. However, this peaceful existence is contingent on our unwavering faithfulness and obedience to Him alone, by upholding our covenant with Him. While rest may seem effortless, it sometimes necessitates supernatural strength. Our innate inclination is to rush, worry, and assert our agenda, diverting our focus from finding joy and placing trust in the Lord. The greater our desire, the shorter our temper. There are occasions when we may even attempt to impose a timetable on God, but genuine rest occurs according to His schedule. Only He comprehends every situation and discerns the exact moment when answering our prayers is optimal. Being still in God’s Presence does not only entail silence or subdued mumble; it involves simply resting in Him, relying on His truthful Word, staying in His love, and being content to await His timing. It entails purposeful patience, not dismal resignation. When we are quietly settled in His Presence, assured of the hope that lies ahead, the incomprehensible peace of God will flood the hearts and souls of those who walk in godliness through Christ Jesus. Sustaining hope is more attainable when we acknowledge and believe in God’s trustworthiness and benevolent intentions. He is never tardy and delights in surprising us with His goodness. We can keep hope alive while awaiting God’s intervention, for we are confident of His trustworthiness, faithfulness, and desire to see joy in our lives, assuring us that our breakthrough will come. We can eagerly anticipate and patiently wait because, at the opportune moment, God will bring about our breakthrough. Even as we endure what may seem like an arduous, long wait, we are called to wait and adhere to His path. His plans for us are prosperous and not detrimental!

Beloved, instead of allowing the circumstances of life to put you under pressure, practice resting in His Presence to do the right thing for you. Remain steadfast in the presence of the LORD as you await His action with unwavering confidence. Pay no heed to the success of evil people or their devious schemes, for they will ultimately be vanquished. Let not your hearts be troubled or fearful, for God reigns in heaven and forever will. He will bear your burdens, worries, anxiety, and fears. Those who have turned to the Lord with their burdens have been transformed. Invest time in delighting in God to foster unshakable trust and commit to His path. Doing so will empower you to trust in His sovereignty and boldly anticipate His intervention. Today, take a break from confusion, worry, stress, and futile effort. Quiet your mind and surrender yourself to the Lord, recognizing His sovereignty over the earth, your life, and all adversaries, whether internal or external, human or spiritual. Stay steadfast, eagerly seeking His help. He promises that as you wait on Him and trust in His plans, He will renew your strength and keep your heart from growing weary. Remember, God is in control, and His timing is perfect.

O Lord, thank You for Your Word. Teach my heart to learn to wait patiently upon You in Jesus’ Name.
