Sing and Make Melody to the Lord

Ephesians 5:19(KJV)
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
In our anchored Scripture Paul urges the Ephesian church to address one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with their hearts. In other words, instead of complaining as many do when faced with trials, or even approach death, we should rather sing songs of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs praising the Lord for His Love and Goodness. Colossians 3:16 says “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” As believers, when the Word of Christ dwells in us our hearts are always filled with praise to the Lord. It is easy to fall into the trap of talking or singing about negative things, problems, disappointments, and struggles. It is also a fact that the more we think and talk or sing about our problems, the weaker we become but we are strengthened as we talk, think and sing about God’s love and goodness.
Singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs are strong tools to calm the mind and refresh the body. That is why it is very important to sing songs that glorify God and bring the operations of Angels into our lives. We all have a song or two that talks about God’s love whether we write or sing or tell it. After having been severely beaten and unjustly arrested, Paul and Silas “were praying and singing hymns to God” in prison at midnight(Acts 16:25). Paul and Silas followed the example of faith set by our Savior, Jesus. When Jesus knew that His death was imminent, He spent part of the evening singing with His disciples. It’s remarkable that He could sing under such circumstances, but what’s even more remarkable is what He sang. Facing death, that night Jesus sang and praised God for His faithful love and thanked Him for His salvation. Surely these psalms and hymns comforted Jesus on the night before His crucifixion because His trust in God was so great that even as He approached His own death, a death He had done nothing to deserve, He chose to sing of God’s love. Because of Jesus, we too can have confidence that whatever we face, God is with us. The psalmist David remembers God in the desert and is comforted. He proudly wrote in Psalm 63:6-7 “On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings”. Hallelujah!!!!!
Beloved, are you going through a difficult time? Encourage yourself by singing your favorite hymn or spiritual song to the Lord instead of complaining or murmuring. In everything give thanks to God and praise Him always in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The reward of singing praises to God is priceless. Remembering who God is and what He has done brings out praise and thanksgiving that glorifies Him. You can then speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit about the goodness of the Lord whose love endures forever! Today, turn your experience of God’s love into a praise song of your own and enjoy an overflow of His never-ending goodness. Sing of God’s Promises in His Word and speak through the voice of His Spirit in your heart. Remember, you feed on your own words so it is very important to speak good words that are full of life.
O Lord, thank You for Your Word, strengthen my faith in You so that I can sing and praise with confidence about Your love and goodness in Jesus’ Name.
