Zechariah 4:10 (KJV)
For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
The Israelites returned from exile with the significant challenge of rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem. Despite the daunting size of the task, Zechariah’s words remind us of a powerful truth: every great endeavor starts with small steps. Throughout history, we see countless examples of small beginnings transforming into remarkable achievements. The Almighty God champions the principle of starting small and gradually growing. This concept is woven into the fabric of creation itself. Every monumental work of God begins as a vision in the heart of a faithful servant. Just as every great building rises from a firm foundation, and every thriving business empire emerges from humble beginnings, it’s clear: it is better to start small and achieve greatness than to begin with grand ambitions that never materialize. Embracing small steps is the key to enduring success. Job 8:7 says, “Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.” It’s essential to understand that getting from A to Z takes time and effort, for anything truly valuable requires dedication and hard work.
In the journey of life, it’s crucial to recognize the significance of small acts, humble contributions, and quiet victories. These elements are often dismissed as inconsequential, yet history is filled with examples where God has transformed modest beginnings into extraordinary outcomes. The message of Jesus Christ in the parable of the mustard seed illustrates this beautifully: though the seed is tiny, it grows into a magnificent plant. As children of God, we must reject the notion that anything is too small to matter. We may face many challenges and knock on numerous doors before discovering the one that leads to success, but there is indeed a door waiting for us that no one can close. Embrace the small tasks along the way, for every contribution is vital to the kingdom of God and essential for our growth. It’s often the little things that prepare us for greater opportunities. Ultimately, there are no small things, for every effort counts. Philippians 3:12 says, “Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.” While we may not be in our desired place at this moment, we will undoubtedly reach our goals with determined leaps of faith. Just as a man doesn’t become a surgeon overnight without years of dedicated training, success takes time and effort, and we are fully capable of achieving it.
Beloved, embrace what is available to you and be steadfast in the small responsibilities God has entrusted to you. Progressing one step at a time is the most reliable route to achieving your goals. Every journey begins with a single step! Every year is initiated with a single day, and every meaningful relationship starts with a simple greeting. Your walk with God begins with one decisive choice, often a bold step of faith. Life itself commences with birth, just as a child learns to crawl before walking or an eagle emerges from its egg, so too does the harvest rise from the seed. Whatever you possess right now is more than enough to catalyze your next miracle. If you disregard the potential of an apple seed, you will never see the apple tree it can become. Neglecting to take that first step means forfeiting the chance to reach your destination. Trust that you will ultimately be well-established, even if your beginning is uncertain. Your faith may feel small now, but it is destined to grow into something remarkable. Never measure your future by the limitations of your present circumstances! Dismiss the negative comments of naysayers and concentrate on your mission, looking to God for your growth. He will empower you to overcome obstacles and lead you toward a glorious outcome, for God transforms small beginnings into greatness through a dedicated process, as long as you are aligned with God’s will. Press on. Serve Him diligently in the small things today, for eternity is approaching swiftly! Celebrate the small things with confidence, for in God’s eyes, they are the stepping stones to a magnificent story that’s just waiting to unfold. Remember, do not despise the days of small beginnings, for the Lord will crown all your efforts with resounding success.
O LORD, help me today to be successful in the small things You have given me to do in Jesus’ Name.
