Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Marriage is legally or formally joining a man and woman as husband and wife to build a God-centered home. It is the oldest institution in the world, recognized by humanity, and has its root in divinity. In other words, the union of a man and woman in marriage is also a mystery ordained by God to fulfill His Divine Plan for humanity. It is a unique relationship ordained by God for a man and a woman to give and receive satisfaction for all needs and desires. That is why Bible made it very clear “a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Right from creation, God demonstrated His interest in the marriage institution by being practically involved in it. He did not simply speak them into being but got involved step by step. Scriptures make it clear that marriage is God’s idea, designed and instituted by Himself for couples to receive the topmost blessings from Him. We also understand that at the heart of God’s design for marriage include companionship and intimacy.
Marriage is most precious and noble to the Lord and should be between a man and woman, and any other meaning of marriage is against God. God designed marriage to be holy, and we must approach it with great respect and due reverence. Our anchored Scripture describes marriage as honorable and advises against defiling it, with a strong warning that God’s judgment will fall on anyone who indulges in sexual immorality in marriage. His standard for marriage hasn’t changed. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says, “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body, but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” Therefore, engaging in fornication and adultery is an act of ingratitude, insatiability, and greed. The pursuits of sin can be temporarily thrilling, but the end result is death. Despite what the world is trying to turn it into, the institution of marriage remains God’s perfect arrangement to meet the needs of companionship between a man and a woman. Marriage is the only institution in which God permits sexual relationships. Proverbs 5:19 says, “Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.” What a generous, loving, and pleasant Father we have in God, who has blessed us with all things to enjoy.
Beloved, to experience the gold in marriage, you and your spouse must do what God says without bypassing His laid-down commandments. To fulfill God’s purpose, you must live according to the order of marriage ordained by Almighty God. Any marriage outside Christ cannot escape the difficulties and troubles of this world. So, make your ways right with God, and you and your spouse will experience God’s favor and blessings. Abstain from sex outside marriage, for God has promised to judge all fornicators and adulterers. Be warned that God’s standard is not the same as the world, and what is acceptable to the world is unacceptable to God. Your sinful pleasure is liable for eternal judgment. No matter how hard it gets in your marriage, and you want to give up, remember that God can make a way where there is no way. Whatever it may cost you, keep your marriage intact because there are great blessings attached to holy matrimony. Hold tight to the partner God has blessed you with, and enjoy them only. Treat each other with respect! Love one another, and don’t ever stop loving each other. Be each other’s friend and do everything possible to stay together because God honors unity. Remember, until wedding vows are exchanged, no man or woman is scripturally permitted to engage in sexual intercourse.
O Lord, help me keep my marriage holy and bed undefiled as You designed it to be in Jesus’ Name.
