The Fear of God Is To Hate Evil

Proverbs 8:13(KJV)

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

The fear of the Lord is defined as having reverence, respect, the right attitude, perspective towards God. The fear of God includes living a holy life, having a strong positive character and spiritual strength, wisdom to do the right thing, faithfulness and diligence in the things of God. The fear of God is the passionate desire to ensure God is pleased with our lives. Our anchor Scripture makes it very clear that anyone who respects and fears God, will hate evil. To hate evil is not to be comfortable anywhere evil is present or being carried out. When we fear God, we will obey His statutes, keep His commandments and perform them, then we will securely dwell in the land. When we fear God, we put Him first and He becomes our everything. The fear of the Lord will make a person consult God for all matters of life. That is, God is in the picture of their lives.

As children of God, we have responsibilities we must accept to experience God’s Blessings, and one of these responsibilities is living in the fear of God. Psalm 112:1 says “Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.” This means, to fear the LORD is to be blessed. However, one of the greatest challenges of humanity today is that many people are moving without the fear of God. Proverbs 16:6 says “Unfailing love and faithfulness make atonement for sin. By fearing the LORD, people avoid evil.” As far as God is concerned, if we are lovers of evil, then we do not fear Him. The absence of the fear of God makes many hurt others without feeling; a person who does not fear God exists without human feeling. The end result of such a lifestyle is destruction. When the fear of God is absent, someone can hurt their wife, husband, sister, brother, child, pastor and colleagues without feelings. It is the lack of reverence for God that makes a person to bear false witness or lie against their neighbor. It is the lack of the fear of God that can make a person defraud another person in the name of doing business. It is the lack of the fear of God that can make a married man/woman commit adultery or the unmarried fornicate with someone. It is the absence of the fear of God that can make a person steal from the Church, store, or work.

Beloved, ensure that you live in the fear of God at all cost, for to fear God is to be safe in life. Keep a healthy conscience in order to have guaranteed safety in God for whatever pushes you against God is a setup for damnation. Nothing finishes a person fast like the lack of fear or reverence for God. Confess and turn from any life of sin and never take God’s Mercy for granted. Be a true Christian, be a Christian in words, appearance and deed. Seek to walk humbly with Jesus in all that you do. Remember, anywhere there is the lack of the fear of the Lord, there is the abundance of sin.

O Lord, give me the grace to live in Your fear maintaining a permanent and consistent relationship with You, cleanse me from any form of guilt or sin in Jesus’ Name.
