The Great Mercies Of God

Nehemiah 9:31 (KJV)

Nevertheless for thy great mercies’ sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.

The mercy of God is the platform upon which God can be gracious to us. Mercy removes punishment due for the violation of divine principles. For God’s great mercies, we are not consumed or forsaken. Psalm 78:38 says, “But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.” By mercy, we enjoy forgiveness, and the same mercy helps us move forward in God. God never completely cut off His people. Even when our sins were at their worst, God would eventually hold back the total weight of His discipline. Psalms103:4 says, “Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies.” God has kept and is still keeping us; He redeems our souls from destruction. It is of His mercy that our challenges have not overwhelmed us. Satan is not having a field day over our lives because of His mercies. Indeed, nothing stops us from being in a worse situation than we are now but the mercies of God. That is why we should always give thanks in any condition we encounter.

In life, the journey to the top requires God’s mercy to succeed. Mercy is an act of kindness, compassion, or favor. It is something that gives evidence of divine favor and blessing. Lamentations 3:22 says, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.” The mercy of God is a profound expression of His love for humanity; it is so much that the natural mind cannot make sense of it. God’s love and forgiveness are mercy, and His mercy is new every morning, sure and constant. Mercy is part of God’s core nature. It defines His character by faithfully keeping His covenant, fulfilling His promises, and maintaining His relationship with His children. God loves us and wants to equip us to overcome this life despite our shortcomings, unworthiness, and unfaithfulness. By His mercies, we receive all things provided by His grace: healing, strength, supplies, and all we need, for we can receive nothing except what is given to us from Heaven. The mercy of God turns a man’s vision into reality. God’s mercy makes us stand out in our community, city, nation, family, or class above all others. Romans 9:16 says, “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” Mercy can give us the same certificate as others but with a far better outcome than them. So, life is an entire struggle and profitless hard labor without mercy. However, God has worked out everything in our favor through Jesus Christ, His Son. He has shown us His mercy by granting us salvation, making it available for all humanity, irrespective of race, color, language, or culture.

Beloved, it is mercy that makes your case and portion different. You are alive today because he loves you. He crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies. You must learn to stop complaining about your seeming unfortunate lots and losses and thank God for His preserving mercies. Think about it: what hope is there for the dead? As long as you have life, you still have hope. It does not matter how low you are right now; the mercy of God will lift you higher than your dreams. Look away from yourself and receive what His mercy has accomplished for you in Christ by faith. It is not over until God says it is over, and God will never say it is over until He secures and establishes His interest in your life and destiny. Always apply for the grace of God at the place of prayer. Open your heart today and receive His mercy. Learn to give and receive mercy regularly, and let mercy become your way of life. Today is the day of the Lord’s mercy for you and your loved ones in Jesus’ Name.

O Lord, thank You for Your mercy. Help me recognize and rest in what You is true so I might fully experience Your tender mercies in Jesus’ Name.
