The Heart Is

Jeremiah 17:9(KJV)

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Human beings possess a heart that can either be virtuous or corrupt, depending on the content that has been fed into it and whether it is guided by truth. As rational beings, humans are created in the image of God. However, in the fallen world, the heart, if left to its own devices, can lead one astray, particularly in light of the frailty of human flesh and the dominion of the prince of darkness. The human heart is a complex organ that possesses the ability to deceive and manipulate. Proverbs 6:14 says, “Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.” We have the capability to conceal our true intentions and display false emotions, even to those we despise. The heart can produce an outward appearance of righteousness, while inwardly, it harbors evil intentions. It has the ability to make impressive promises of change and transformation, even in the face of adversity. The heart is a remarkable mechanism that can deceive and inspire, depending on its motives and intentions.

We live in a world today where perverted hearts plot evil, and they constantly stir up trouble. The human heart is seen as the powerhouse of life, but unfortunately, it is described in the Bible as hopelessly corrupt. Guarding our hearts can be a difficult task because many things come into our lives in everyday life. Many obstacles will tempt, distract, and discourage us from following God’s will for our lives. However, Ezekiel 36:26 says, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.” In response, God promised to transform the hearts of humanity from being hard and unyielding to being soft and receptive. This promise was fulfilled through the sacrificial death of God’s righteous Son, Jesus Christ, who offers us a new beginning. The process of being born again is spiritual and is entirely the work of God, regardless of how deeply a person has been entrenched in sin. It involves a transformative sequence of events, including repentance, confession, and conversion, which results in a complete change in the direction of one’s life. To fully experience the abundant life that comes with the new covenant in Jesus Christ, we must allow God to perform a spiritual heart surgery that replaces our hardened hearts with a brand new, receptive heart of flesh.

Beloved, it is a blessed thing for your heart to be pure. So, guard your heart to guarantee the fulfillment of your destiny. The human heart can be likened to a soil that receives seeds that determine one’s personality. The output of the heart is reflected in our words and actions. Even if you try to conceal your true nature, your actions and words will eventually reveal your character. Be careful of what fills your heart because your thoughts shape your life. Be careful with whom you share your visions, dreams, and aspirations because the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked. Make up your mind to be disciplined; as you do so, you will experience a drastic change. You cannot afford to be careless with your heart. The devil is seeking to contaminate and pollute it. Today, make a firm decision to be a person of unwavering conviction. Be consistent in your speech and actions, and focus on reading and memorizing scripture while cultivating positive, godly thoughts. Refuse to entertain negative thoughts that may hinder your progress toward your goals. You have the power to take charge of your thoughts and actions, and with determination, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

O LORD, hold my heart in Your hands today, ready to turn to You for every need in Jesus’ Precious Name.
