The Lifestyle Of Falsehood

2 Samuel 1:14-16 (KJV)

And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD’S anointed? And David called one of the young men and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died. And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD’S anointed.

In 2 Samuel 1:1–16, an Amalekite killed himself by telling lies. He ran to King David and said he saw King Saul trying to kill himself. So, he helped to kill him and brought his crown for David. He brought this message to David because he thought David would reward him for killing his enemy. The man didn’t realize one important fact that the king’s blood was precious to David and God alike because David himself had the chance to kill Saul but instead spared his life. David turned to the Amalekite and used his story against him: “Why were you not afraid to lift your hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?” David commanded one of his men to kill the man, and without hesitation, the man was put to death. The man brought untimely death upon himself by lying.  Literally, the Amalekite did not kill Saul; Saul killed himself. But his lying words exposed his deceit to David, and it brought judgment upon his head. Proverbs 14:5 says, “A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.”

The lifestyle of falsehood is a deadly enemy of destiny. Lies can lead to untimely death. In Acts 5, the lies of Ananias and Sapphira killed them instantly. Ananias and his wife had conspired to get recognition, but their conspiracy led them to death. Hypocrisy and the desire for the praise of men all played a part in their demise. By all standards, lies are the devil’s greatest weapons with which he enslaves people into falsehood. So, anyone who exists in falsehood also dwells with the father of lies. And anywhere truth is absent, the Spirit of God is not present because the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. The battle for the souls of men is now at its peak, as Satan, the father of all lies, is doing everything possible to keep men bound in darkness and error. There is no generation that surpasses ours in the display of falsehood. We have false apostles, false prophets, false teachers, false brethren, false body parts, false news, false accusations, and false witnesses. Many, just like the Amalekite, are tempted to twist a story to make themselves look better. There are many people enslaved in falsehood. Many have embraced the way of bondage, for liars are natural candidates for captivity. However, believers are to uphold the truth above all things, including ego trips and personality cults. Proverbs 12:19 says, “The lip of truth shall be established forever: ………….”  In other words, the truth guarantees longevity and lasting results.

Beloved, make up your mind to speak the truth always; avoid the way of falsehood. Determine never to be carried away by insincerity. Do not struggle to impress anyone. You have to be genuine in all things.. Whatever it will cost you, insist on the truth. Anything honesty and truthfulness cannot give, you don’t need. Any victory or breakthrough the truth cannot offer you; there is no need for it. Every time you notice that you said something that is not true or acted in an insincere way, repent promptly. Never sleep over a lie because no one knows when Jesus will come. Insist on and live in the truth at all costs. Let the world and the devil know your stand regarding the truth. Today, turn your heart toward the truth so that you can pursue an honest relationship with God and others. Remember, you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

O Lord, I refuse to exist in falsehood. I receive the grace to live in truth always in Jesus’ Name.
