1 John 3:2(NIV)
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
Today, many people live without the consciousness of their end in mind; they live without the consciousness of eternity and as a result, they waste their lives here on earth. As believers in Christ, one of the anchors of our faith in Christ is the hope that He is coming back again. Every Christian has heard about the first coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to this world and that the world is expecting His second coming. Even those who deceive themselves that He is not the Son of God know that He is coming soon to judge the world. This world is not here to stay; this world is passing away. The Bible makes it very clear that all things shall pass away but the Word of God(Luke 21:33). So, any preparation for Christ’s second coming outside the Word of God is an exercise in futility and an open invitation to destruction beyond our understanding.
Apostle John, writing to believers, said that God has called us His children(1 John 3:1). We do not fully understand that identity, but when we see Jesus, we will be like Him. As sons of God, we have a birthright which our adoption accords us. Although our minds cannot fully comprehend presently the scope of what this birthright gives, we have the assurance that when we see the Lord in glory, we will understand it all, because we will be exactly like Him. On that day, we will be fully restored to the identity God intended for us. We will be made new. As Christian, no matter how much pressure comes on the earth, no matter how dark the natural circumstances around us are, we know that we have hope in the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:9(KJV) says “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
My dear friend, the good news today is that when you receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you are born again into the right family of God. Beware of doing things that would amount to selling your birthright as a child of God. The best way to avoid this is to consciously keep yourself away from worldly corruption and anything that defiles. Never live your life to impress anybody but your Father who is in Heaven. Stand firm and let nothing move you for as child of God your labor is not in vain. Although what we will be has not yet been made known to us, God is fair and He won’t forget what you’ve done or the love you’ve shown for Him. So work out your salvation with fear and trembling(Philippians 2:12) because no man born of a woman can withstand the trial and judgement of God(Psalm 130:2). Today, get your eyes off this world and get them on the soon return of Jesus because it will cause you to live uprightly, to separate you from the sin and failure of the world around you. It will lift you into the joy and victory of God. It is important to know this so we can apply our hearts to wisdom; the wisdom of serving God, living a holy and righteous life. If you hear the voice of Jesus and His gentle knock on the door of your soul, be encouraged that He patiently waits for you and will enter if you welcome Him in. To anyone who opens the door, He promises to enter. Always remind yourself that everyday draws you closer to eternity, every sunrise draws you closer to your sunset.
O Lord, thank You for the blessing of Your Word, give me the grace to draw nearer to You in Jesus’ Name.
