Thy Will Be Done

Luke 11:2(KJV)

And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us an outline for prayer in what is popularly called The Lord’s Prayer. No wonder in this prayer, He mentioned The Kingdom of God because it was the central Message of all He came to do and teach. Jesus Christ came so that we can once again unite with God in doing His Will and pursuing His Pleasure. When we pray, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven,” we are praying for the rule and reign of the Kingdom of God in our lives. “Thy Kingdom come” here helps us understand that praying for Kingdom advancement is God’s commandment and will for us. From the Lord’s prayer, one thing is clear: only the Will of God is done in Heaven, where He dwells, and on Earth, where we dwell. Everyone and everything existing in Heaven and on Earth conforms to God’s Will and Plan. 1 John 5:14 says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:” So, our prayer should reflect the desire to align ourselves with God’s goals and purposes, not to get Him to follow our plans. Through His Son, God saved us so that we can join His family in Heaven in doing His Will on earth. David had this understanding, so he said in Psalm 143:10, “Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.”

God created us to walk in His Blueprint for our lives. So, we must reject anything less than God’s Will for us with all force. Living within the Divine Will means understanding God’s plan for us in every area of our lives. The Will of God is always important and higher than any other will, including the will of man. Some Christians forget God is the One blessing them with so much, and they let His very blessing be a barrier to following His Will. It is so funny that the same people want God to continue to bless them with children, wealth, green cards, good marriage, the best of health, good jobs, and so on. If we are lovers of ourselves, it will be difficult for us to please God and do His Will. No matter where we are, Jesus has called all His followers to take up our cross and follow Him. God’s Will can look different in our lives, but the call to embrace it is the same for each of us. As believers, we should put God and His Will first in our lives. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Beloved, the Will of God for your life is supreme, and it is His Will that we serve Him alone. He reigns both in Heaven and on Earth. As long as you remain steadfast in His Word, no devil can strip you of His Will on earth. Your will is at its most powerful when it is in harmony and agreement with God’s Will. Living according to God’s Will eliminates strife. Today, open your heart to the will of God, which is revealed in His Word. Stand firm in faith and witness His Will manifest in your life, just as it does in Heaven! Be diligent in prayer and study the Word of God(Bible) daily. Continue to serve Him faithfully and seek His grace to run the race. Remember, at the end of time, only those who diligently followed God’s Will on earth will have the privilege to continue doing so in Heaven.

O Lord, teach and grant me the grace to do Your Will, enforce Your Will in my life in Jesus’ Name.
