Treasure God’s Word

Psalm 119:9-11 (KJV)

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy Word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

From our anchor Scripture, one can withstand the pressure of selfish desires and societal demands by reading God’s Word. One of the keys to not sinning is to treasure the Word of God in our hearts. In order to achieve the ultimate goal of living for the glory of God by enjoying Him forever, it is imperative to treasure the Word of God in our hearts. We maintain upright character through the Word of God. The Word of God is a highly treasured seed and a major tool for character reformation; the entrance of the Word is the doorway to light. God’s Word carries sanctifying virtues, and every genuine encounter with the Word liberates us from sin. Just as the presence of light subdues darkness, it also takes the Word to subdue sin. God’s Word is the only sure foundation for life and acts as a check on our lives. The instructions derived from the Holy Scriptures make us useful in every realm of life. Psalm 19:9–11 says, “The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”

The Bible, the written Word of God, is God’s wisdom bank. The strength to resist sinful conduct comes when we feed on God’s Word daily and do what it says. The Word of God has a more significant influence than the temptations around us. It also has the power to make us fulfill God’s destiny. Job 23:12 says, “Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” While the need to eat food is important, the need to eat God’s Word is more important. Following a well-structured reading schedule will have a purifying effect on our hearts and minds. As Christians, we are called to be our generation’s shining light and trailblazers. Our unwavering character is meant to convict sinners and lead them to God. It’s crucial to internalize His Word, reflect on it daily, and boldly proclaim it to those who are yet to know God. The challenges we face as Christians often stem from neglecting the study and reading of the Bible. We should not be content to go through a chapter merely to satisfy our conscience but allow the Word to be our guide and wisdom in all our decisions and actions, allowing it to restrict our inner cravings and public conduct.

Beloved, the key to living a perfect life for the successful ending of your Christian journey lies in your obedience to the written Word of God. Store up the Word of God in your heart as something very precious. When you have the Word of God stored or hidden in your heart and treasure it like gold and silver, that Word will function to keep you from sin. Hide the Word of God in your heart! Allow the Word of God to change who you are and who you are meant to be. Let the Word nurture, nourish, and give life to your faith walk. Value God’s Word in your life—desire to have His Word more than the food that is only here today and gone tomorrow. When you fully commit to following the Lord’s ways, you will gain greater clarity in discerning His plan and willingly align your will with His. Achieving the person that God designed you to be necessitates cultivating a deep relationship with Him and a strong determination to follow His Word. Remember, keeping the Word of God keeps you away from all evil.

O Lord, help me to read Your Word daily, interpret it correctly, and apply it enthusiastically to my life as it enlightens the riches within me in Jesus’ Name.
