Job 8:7 (KJV)
Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.
The above Scripture encourages us not to despise the day of small things. In God’s dealings with man, there have been so many stories of little beginnings becoming great. People nowadays despise the days of little beginnings and deride small things. This was the problem with the unprofitable servant in Matthew 25:14-30. He thought he was not given enough talents to trade with and so he went ahead to hide what he was given. The consequence of this was that even the talent he was initially given was taken away from him, and he was punished for being slothful, lazy and insubordinate. In today’s world, many are so obsessed with all things mega, small things have become unattractive and unimportant to a lot of people. Many people think that they need millions before they can start a business that will lead to financial breakthrough. However, Zechariah 4:10a says “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin…” Usually, in the days of small things, critics are numerous and will unleash remorseless condemnation without reservation. However, like David encourage yourself in the Lord and don’t give up.
It is important to know that the message of Jesus Christ in the story of the mustard seed in Mark 4:30-32 was to show that though the size of a mustard seed may be small, it grows to become a massive plant. To neglect the law of progression may keep us from going forward. If we do not believe in the principle of progression, we will not go far in life. When we move from one stage to another in progression, we become more stable. Every great work of God usually starts small, beginning sometimes only as a vision in the mind of a faithful servant of God. Every great building started from the foundation and every business empires today started small. It’s better to start small and end great than to start big and never grow from there or even crash. After prophet Elijah had labored forcefully in the place of prayer by casting himself down on the floor and putting his face between his knees, all he received was a little cloud like a man’s hand. But soon after, the little cloud change and became larger clouds and there was a great rain. Be assured that the glorious completion of your assignment will put to shame all those who scorned its small beginning.
Beloved, start with what is available and be faithful in the little that God has committed into your hands. It is not evidence of doubt but evidence of planning! The Almighty God had to plan and if He, to whom all things are possible moved from one step to another, then you are not exempted. One step at a time is the surest way to get to the top. Every long journey starts with a step. Failure to take the first step is also failure to arrive at your destination. No child is born as an adult, he grows to become an adult. Whatever you have now is enough to start your next miracle. If you despise an apple seed you will not get an apple tree. Ecclesiastes 7:8 says “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.” You might have started on a shaky note, but I want to assure you that you will end up being well established. Your faith may be very weak now, but it will become great faith at the end. Never judge your future by the limitation of your present! God will help you overcome those obstacles and limitations, and He will safely take you to your glorious end. No matter how small your beginning is, your latter end will increase tremendously in the Name of Jesus. Remember, do not despise the days of small beginnings, be holy, diligent, prayerful and focused, and the Lord will crown all your efforts with resounding success. and make your latter end to increase beyond measure, according to His Word.
O Lord, help my humble beginning and cause my latter end to be great in Jesus’ Name.
