But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
It is clear from the above Scripture that continuous devotion to prayer and the ministry of the Word of God is essential in the life of a Christian. Prayer is servicing our relationship with our Heavenly Father through communication. On the other hand, the study of the Word is accessing the ways, thoughts, principles, and precepts of God. A lifestyle of prayer and the study of the Word reveals our faithfulness to God. Prayer and the Word of God create purpose in our lives that lasts forever. Its practice is like the combination of a gun and a bullet. When we combine the ministry of prayer and the Word of God effectively, the effect in the realm of the spirit is more powerful than the 25-megaton hydrogen bomb that can dislodge and destroy the power of darkness.
Prayer and the Word of God combined are pathways to destiny and distinction in life. However, Bible knowledge without praying is a way of promoting people with just knowledge. If all we have is the Word of God and no prayer, we have lots of light and no fire. On the other hand, if we have lots of prayers and no Word, we have lots of fire and no light. It is zeal without knowledge. We have got to keep things balanced. Just as a man must stand on his two legs physically to maintain a balanced posture, it takes a stand on prayer on one leg and the Word of God on the other leg to have a fulfilled destiny. That is, stability must be maintained at all times. Lack of balancing has brought much-untold hardship on Christians. For it is written in Matthew 4:4 “But he answered and said, It is written Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” As Christians, we are to pray without ceasing and approach God’s Throne of Grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Beloved, make sure amidst the meeting needs of all kinds, you do not neglect prayer, devotion to prayer, and the ministry of the Word. Because the combination of prayer and the Word releases power to live a very distinguished Christian life. So, praying and studying the Word of God must be combined to be a kingdom star and a terror to the kingdom of darkness. Enrich your faith and grow in spiritual maturity with the incredible Bible study and prayer. Feed habitually and persistently on the Word of God and prayer to become too fat for the yoke of various afflictions to remain around your neck. Today, take time to study the Scripture and ask God in prayer to open your eyes to see what is yours.
O LORD, help me not to neglect that which is most important, the ministry of the Word of God and prayer. Give me the grace to pray and study the Word without ceasing in Jesus’ Name.
