God’s Name Is A Strong Tower

Proverbs 18:10(KJV)

The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

A tower is a robust and tall structure that serves as a shelter during dangerous times, providing safety for those inside. Similarly, the Name of the Lord is a secure haven for us, a stronghold and fortress that cannot be swayed or shaken. Psalm 20:1 says, “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!” It is also clear from our anchored Scripture that the Name of the Lord is not just a Name but a strong tower of refuge. The Name of the Lord is our Place of Defense, the Place to run to, and our Tower of Strength. Knowing the Name of the Lord is a formidable shield against satan’s schemes. The Name can both electrify and wipe out the works of the devil. The Name of the Lord can hide the children of God from the reach of any harm and has come to show that there is a power that the devil cannot contend with. As we run into the Name of the Lord, we are safe from the arrows of the wicked and the winds of adversity. None can deliver out of His Hand, for none is beside Him. This knowledge gives us unwavering confidence and security in our Christian faith. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

The Name of the Lord is a strong tower representing the vastness and depth of His character, presence, and strength. The Name of the Lord is equivalent to the Lord Himself; the Name signifies everything that God is in Himself. The Almighty God is the security upon which our lives should base; only in the Name of the Lord is our safety guaranteed. God is our Refuge. He is Mighty to deliver and save, the Mighty Man in battle and the Lord of Host. When we serve and rely on Him, He can exert His Power to tame the raging storms of life. In times of trouble, the Strong Tower of the Lord provides unconquerable protection. No witch, wizard, or devil can pursue us there. Judges 9:50-55 recounts how God’s people fled to the tower in the city of Thebez when Abimelech attacked them. Despite his continued attacks and attempts to burn down the gate, a woman threw a stone from the top of the tower; it struck Abimelech’s head. Knowing he would die; he ordered his armor bearer to kill him to avoid the shame of being slain by a woman. By choosing the Strong Tower, the people of God overcame Abimelech and emerged victorious. There will always be enemies to face, but victory depends on our positioning. When confronted by the Philistine giant Goliath as a young man, David fearlessly proclaimed in 1 Samuel 17:45, “You come at me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” David’s unshakeable faith in the strength of God’s Name profoundly impacted himself and those around him, even at a young age.

Beloved, do not live carelessly in times like this so you don’t become a casualty. Live right so you can dwell inside the Name of the Lord. You must know the Name of the Lord in times of peace before He can answer you in times of war. God will hear you and provide you with the strength and comfort you need to face whatever challenges when you call upon the Name of the Lord in times of trouble. So, make the Name of the Lord a strong tower in your life. Strive to live a righteous life and turn to His Name in times of trouble. Today, take your position in the Strong Tower, and you shall be victorious over every challenge in life. Use the Name of the Lord to confront every battle, and you will see them crumble before you. If there is ever a time that you need to shout that Name more than ever before, it is now. Just remember that Name in all you do!

O Lord, thank You for being my hiding place and refuge. Keep me secure for the rest of my life in Jesus’ Name.
