God’s Requirements

Deuteronomy 10:12(KJV)

And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

From our anchored Scripture, God summarizes all He wants from us with these simple instructions: to love Him, serve Him with your whole heart and soul, and observe His commands. When God provides simple, clear instructions, they are for our good. He only has our best interest in mind, so everything God does is for us. Those who genuinely love God express their love in action. They fear the Lord, walk in all His ways, serve the Lord with all their hearts, and observe His commands and decrees. When God made a covenant with His people, He expected them to show reverence, love, and obedience due to His faithfulness toward them. To fear the Lord means being aware of what displeases God, specifically sinful and wicked behavior. To walk in His ways is to obey His commandments, for obedience to God’s commands and principles is the measure of our love. When we observe the Lord’s commands, we show our love for Him. Our sincere love for God also manifests itself in service. The primary focus of Christian living and service is to please the Lord. God is the Owner and the Giver of life, and the purpose God gives us life is to please and glorify Him.

As disciples, we must embody the same dedication to serving God as Jesus exemplified during His ministry. Serving God is our privilege as believers, for there is no distinguished honor than serving the All-Powerful God who loves and adores us. Service is a demonstration of love; when we love something, we want to do everything for them. Whenever we serve God, it should come from a place of love for Him with all our hearts and souls. It means the deeper our love for God, the stronger our service. Love for God should motivate us to serve Him with all our hearts. People in love with God do not need to be coerced into doing things for God’s sake. Just as a caress expresses love for our spouse; obeying God expresses our love for Him. Service is not a burden but a blessing to serve Him. The service of God ensures and guarantees our lives and shields us against the visitation of evil. 1 Samuel 12:24 says, “Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.” Making the Lord our priority by serving Him in truth with all our hearts is the sure way. God wants us to serve out of gratitude, for being grateful to Him is the best motivator to honor and stand in awe of Him. Amos 5:22-24 says that worship and offerings to God are meaningless without holiness and righteousness. It includes our prayers, expensive gifts, songs, and musical instruments.

Beloved, God wants to deal with every burden of your life if you commit yourself to Him in quality service. Serve God and please Him alone. Be committed to God unconditionally. If you serve Him with your all, you have a far better chance of keeping everything else in the right place. Guard His position in your life carefully, and He will guard the rest of your life. Obey Him, and do not adjust the Word of God to suit your lifestyle or character. Any fear of God that does not change your life is a wasted effort. So, do not pretend to fear the Lord and continue to live in sin. Make the study of God’s Word a conscious and consistent habit in your life, for He promises to care for you, protect and bless you. As you obey and serve God, I see God cause you to enjoy undeniable prosperity and all-around pleasure in Jesus’ Name! Remember, serve God at all times and in all seasons without conditions.

O Lord, I receive the grace to serve You with my all. Help me to walk after You, fear, keep Your commandments, obey Your voice, and cling to You in Jesus’ Name.
