Stand Up For The Lord

Genesis 37:2(KJV)

These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.

The story of Joseph teaches us that God knows what the future holds for us and sometimes has to put us through the fire to refine and equip us to do His work. It is clear from the above Scripture that Joseph always refused to join the evil deeds of his brothers. His character is one that every Christian should emulate. Joseph stood out from his brothers consistently, and he refused to be involved in their evil conduct. As a result of his stand for righteousness, Joseph reported the wickedness of his brothers to his father. It made him even more unpopular and disliked among his brothers. He must have confronted them in their acts of unrighteousness, but when they refused to change their evil way of behavior, he told his father to rebuke them for a change of behavior. Joseph was so righteous that he refused to give in to the pressure and pleasure of immorality from Potiphar’s wife; he would have buried his future had he consented to the advances of this wicked wife. Iniquity kills destiny, while integrity is key to fulfilling destiny.

God will always honor our faithfulness as we take a stand for Him. When we take a stand for God, He will never abandon us nor allow the enemies to have us in derision. He will make us have the last laugh! In Esther Chapter 3, Mordecai refused to bow to Haman. Mordecai said, “I will not bow to you because it is only God I should bow to.” So, Mordecai would not compromise his faith, even in a strange land. He took his faith with him into a strange land by taking a stand for God. In Daniel 3, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were confronted with the choice of bowing down before the graven image of king Nebuchadnezzar or facing the danger of being thrown into the fiery furnace. However, they decided they would not bow before the gods even if God would not deliver them. They cast them into the burning fiery furnace because of their dedication to God. But God stepped into the furnace with them to confirm that He does not abandon those who take a stand for Him(Daniel 3:25). When we take a stand for God, He steps into every challenge of our lives to rescue us.

Beloved, God is counting on you today to make up your mind not to compromise your Christian faith on any issue. To be different from the world and make a mark for God, you must take a stand for God. You must stand out from the crowd and run against the evil wind of unrighteousness and iniquity. You bury your destiny when you fall into the temptation of committing fornication and other sinful practices and habits. Stand out from the crowd by standing on the ground of righteousness and refusing to do what everyone does if it is against God’s Word. Always make up your mind to say No to all forms of sin. Make up your mind to live that one life that will only glorify God. Trust that God is working and taking care of every detail of your life to bring about the good even when you do not see it. Remember, people will dislike you for your righteousness, but God is faithful; He will make a way out of no way and deliver you from the enemy. You will not be destroyed or consumed by the enemy, for God will not forsake or leave you.

O Lord, help me always take a stand for You in this perverse generation in Jesus’ Name.
