The Cost Of Disobedience

Numbers 20:11-12(KJV)

And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

As the children of Israel tarried in the wilderness, they had no water to drink, and the people contended against Moses and Aaron. The Lord then instructed Moses to assemble the people and speak to the rock before their eyes to bring out water for them to drink. God gave Moses specific instructions because He was setting up a significant prophetic picture for generations to come. The first time the people needed water to drink in Exodus 17, Moses was to strike the rock, but the second time he was supposed to speak to the rock. Angry at the people’s outburst, Moses charged and rebuked them, tagging them as rebels! In anger, he turned and struck the rock twice instead of speaking to it as the Lord had instructed. Water came out for the people to drink, but Moses’ action displeased the Lord because he did not follow God’s instruction. This anger and disobedience deprived Moses of entering the Promised Land for angrily disobeying God by striking the rock instead speaking to it. Moses was described as humbler than any other person on earth(Numbers 12:3), yet he allowed anger to disqualify him from crossing the finish line as the Lord had intended. Even as a young man, Moses dreamed of being a deliverer for his people, but anger and disobedience deprived him of fulfilling that heart desire. Moses, great a leader as he was, was still a man subject to God and His law.

Disobedience is extremely dangerous and a destiny-killer because it can destroy a lifetime of achievement within seconds. There is always the danger of disobedience to the Word of God, for God is no respecter of persons. To be disobedient is to yield to self-will instead of surrendering to God and desiring His will in all things. Ephesians 5:6 says, “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things, the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” It is vital to know that it was a lifestyle of disobedience that dislocated the destiny of Adam and Eve; they disobeyed God, and their futures got aborted. Most Christians today know how to spiritualize their disobedience and think they are dealing with man; some make statements like God understands their disobedience. Many won’t fulfill their calling because of disobedience. So, it is necessary for us to step back and not allow our disobedience to cause us to dishonor God and miss the Promised Land.

Beloved, make up your mind to live a lifestyle of obedience, for disobedience will cut short your destiny. Do not agree with anyone to disobey God. Regardless of who you are, where you come from, and whatever you’re thinking, your essence here on earth is to obey and worship God and be in agreement with Him. So, check your life and look for those things hindering you from becoming the best God wants you to be. If you find them, drop them immediately before they make you leave out of the journey to your Promised Land. Don’t give up, compromise your stand or allow yourself to be distracted from the path of obedience. Obey God because He always stays true to the principle of His Word. Today, if you desire to open the door to the miraculous in your life, have faith in God and obey Him completely. Remember, God will not bestow His blessings upon anyone who persists in willful disobedience to His commandments, except those who decisively repent of sin and totally turn to Christ.

O Lord, forgive me for my disobedience. I receive the grace for total and complete obedience in Jesus’ Name.
