Bring Out Goodness

Luke 6:45(KJV)

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

The power and significance of our words are a repeated topic in Scripture. The impact of our speech cannot be over-emphasized, for the above Scripture makes it clear that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. It means our mouths speak forth the overflows of what is in our hearts. That is, whatever is on the inside will surely come outside. In other words, the outward manifestation of us reveals the content of our hearts. Whenever we open our mouths, bits of what we have stored within our hearts automatically leak out, revealing our character. The truth is, we know a mad person not just by checking the state of their mind but by the crazy things we see manifest outwardly. Likewise, when God’s Word fills our hearts, our mouths will speak His wisdom. If we are truly holy and filled with the Holy Spirit, it will reflect in our words and show how we minister to others. Ephesians 4:29 says, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”  Our words should only speak what is good for necessary edification, that ministers grace to hearers. In life, we tend to emphasize and remember our problems, but as Christians, we are to speak in a way that benefits the people around us. As salt flavors our food, grace flavors our words for building up others.

The most significant benefits that flow to the people of God from our words are the present support and future provision. Words can change our current situation and future, for either the good or worst. As written in Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Our tongues are potent enough to either make or destroy us, gun down our lives, or build up our destinies. The words we speak would either bring down rain to water the seeds sown or establish a drought that will destroy the seeds. It is time to begin to water the labors of our hands by speaking the right kind of words. As believers of the Gospel, we must fill our hearts with the Right Words. Instead of destroying lives through thoughtless and hateful words, we can bless others. We comfort and not curse. We use this comely part to benefit others. Proverbs 21:23 says, “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.” The truth is our speech determines our reach in life, and what comes out of our mouth determines how we end. There is no destiny for careless talkers. When the world speaks its language of hate, lack, sicknesses, stagnation, hopelessness, defeats, trials, failures, and so on, learn to declare the Heavenly language of supernatural provision, good health, victory, increase, testimonies, and the list goes on. When we learn to speak God’s Word over our situations, we are superimposing what God has said over every contrary situation in our lives.

Beloved, the words you say are the condition of your heart. Like a tree comes from the soil, your words and actions also come from your heart. They are planted, invested, and hidden in your heart. Speak life where everything seems dead, speak your conviction rather than your condition, declare peace wherever there is conflict, and speak love to the depressed. You’re to bless with your words; your words must lift and inspire others, not beat them down. Sweet and bitter waters don’t come out of the same fountain. Don’t speak negativity and expect to see positivity; failure and look to see success or speak frustration and hope to see satisfaction. Don’t run your life down or join anybody to run it down in your presence or absence with negative words. Give greater attention to the Word; in times of crisis and trials, only words of wisdom, solution, blessing, and love should come from you. Make the decision that only the right words will come out of your mouth, even when you seem to be making a joke. Speak words that are consistent with your nature of righteousness. Never let your words misrepresent you. Refuse to speak in a way that would lead other people to hellfire. Through the help of the Holy Spirit, your words can encourage people who are hurting, want to grow in their faith or need to come to the Savior. The secret to getting victory over your tongue is knowing God! Draw close to His presence and let Him reveal what is in your heart. Remember, only you can control the input that will change the output.

O Lord, help me speak words of hope and encouragement to build up others in Jesus’ Name.
