Working For God

Ephesians 6:7(MSG)

And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you’re really serving God.

Service is a vital characteristic of our walk with God. It makes our walk with God meaningful and fruitful securing our glorious future in Christ. From the above Scripture, we are admonished as servants to be faithful in our services as to the Lord and not to men. In other words, never do anything half-heartedly but give it our best shot as if our lives depend on it. It is written in Colossians 3:23 “Work hard and cheerfully at all you do, just as though you were working for the Lord and not merely for your masters”. We stand to benefit if we conduct ourselves “as to the Lord, and not to man”. The trademark of true Christians is the ability to set good example as the world looks up to us as their Bible. When we are in relationship with Jesus, any work we have to do gives us an opportunity to reflect His Presence in our lives. Tackling our responsibilities whatever they may be with joy, creativity, determination and excellence gives us an opportunity to influence those around us, no matter our job. By doing every work for the Lord, we present the Gospel in an acceptable manner. It is the highest form of worship to God.

As believers our service to God must be excellent because He deserves excellent service from His people. He is an excellent God and He does everything excellently, such that none can add to it or subtract from it. Therefore, as children made in God’s image and likeness, we have no excuse whatsoever, not to give our best at all times, irrespective of where we are or the circumstances around us. This means using the best of our divine endowments, skills, talents and resources for the promotion of God’s Kingdom. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily! This is your last and only chance at it, For there’s neither work to do nor thoughts to think in the company of the dead, where you’re most certainly headed.” In whatever area of service we find ourselves, recognize that our service should be rendered as to the Lord. With this mind-set, our focus will be set on Heaven’s testimonial about us and not what people think. If we serve the Lord as though we are serving man, whatever reward we get will not go beyond this world. Therefore, whatever assignment God gives us in His Kingdom, do it with joy, passion, and with faith, as unto the Lord. Proverbs 22:29 says “Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people.”

Beloved, you cannot afford not to be at your best at every given opportunity, irrespective of what you are doing or what is happening around you for your service is not to man but to God. Make a decision today to render quality service to God. Pay any price, make any sacrifice until you make excellence happen in your service to God! God will in turn distinguish you in life. Never be satisfied to do only what you have to do in order to get by. As you do it to the Lord, you will see increase in every area of your life! Be on fire for the Lord all the time. You must strive for excellence at all times in your service delivery in the Kingdom of God. Be instant in season, and out of season for God sees everything you do for Him and for others, and He’s faithful to reward you. Do not be weary in well-doing for your reward is coming. Don’t lose hope. It will come at the right time if you keep working for God. Seek the testimonial of Heaven today and your struggles to make it in life will become a thing of the past. Remember, always make it a point of duty to be the best working for God and not man for nothing you do for the Lord is forgotten by Him, He will surely reward you.

O Lord, I choose to serve You with my whole heart, help me to do everything to the best of my ability in Jesus’ Name.
