Worry Takes You Nowhere

Matthew 6:27(NLT)

Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

The Bible clearly teaches that God’s children are not to worry. Worry is a weapon that the enemy uses to subject people to gruesome bondage. Worrying only makes us meditate the thoughts of satan. It was designed by the devil to produce stress, strain and death. As we fight the good fight of faith, our minds are constantly in battle whether to believe the Word of God or the lies of the devil. Whatever we allow to captivate our minds will also rule our lives. This is because worrying magnifies the problem, what we focus on will always get bigger. At the end of our worry sessions, the issue at hand never gets solved rather it is magnified. Perhaps this can help us rethink our tendency to worry, because it suggests that it does not help the situation we are concerned about.

Jesus asked an interesting question about worry: “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” In other words, Jesus was asking “how many problems have we solved by worrying or has anything ever gotten any better as a result of us worrying about it?” Of course not. Worry is like a rocking chair; it sets us in motion but never gets us anywhere. Many are down with the weight of the world on them but worrying does not solve the problem. It is written in Proverbs 12:25 “Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up”. A kind word makes a difference in the life of anyone battling with worry. Our words can be what keeps a person going, our compliments can put a spring back into their step. The desire of God for His people is not to be broken hearted but always filled with joy. Worry and anxiety concerning any matter can end up taking our lives! Satan will do everything possible to drop worry into our hearts because he knows that the joy of the Lord is our strength. When it feels like time to worry, turn to the inspired words of king David, who faced his own share of difficulties and worries, but concluded in Psalm 55:22 “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.” God also promises in Isaiah 26:3 that He will keep us in perfect peace when we keep our minds stayed on Him. What a great alternative to worry!
