A Song of Praise is Pleasant and Fitting

Psalm 147:1(ESV)

Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant,[a] and a song of praise is fitting.

The psalmist writes that it is good for us to sing praises to our God for it is pleasant and fitting. Singing praises to God is not limited to church service alone, but every day is a new opportunity to sing praises to our gracious God. Praising God helps us to focus on His ability and opens the door of possibilities to us. Our praise to God excites and motivates Him, it gives God pleasure. Praise is remembering and expressing our joy and thanks for all God has done, is doing, and will do for us. It invites His Presence and redirects our hearts and words to focus on Him. Praise is a weapon that can turn the awful or dreadful things in our lives into wonderful and delightful things. Praise launches us into a life of endless miracles and makes us all-round winners in the battles of life. It is a weapon of privilege that God has put in our hands to make living glorious for us and with which we humiliate the devil and his agents. It is our dose against the enemy.

As children of God, our adversaries are silenced when we obey the law of praise. When we live in praise, we carry authority with us because we have the backing of Heaven. David said in Psalm 34:1 “he will bless the Lord at ALL times”. That is, whether in sorrow or happiness, plenty or lack, life or death, he will continue to bless the Lord. However, many have lost their rightful place because the devil has succeeded in taking away their praise to God. The enemy is in a rage and is unrelentingly attacking God’s children to stop their praise to God. The devil wants to overwhelm and overburden believers with worries, discouragement and depression, he wants life to be hard and difficult so that they will not be able to praise God. His evil tactics are to weigh believers down because he knows we are created to worship and praise God, for God inhabits the praises of His people and, in praising God, we get untold blessings from the Most High God. Deuteronomy 10:21 says “He is your praise. He is your God, who has done for you these great and terrifying things that your eyes have seen”. If we want to see God back us up, then no reason is strong enough to cast us down, we should live a life of endless praise to God.

Beloved, choosing to praise Him in the middle of hard circumstances and to thank Him for the ways He’s been faithful before, opens the door for His Presence to come, and for His Power to begin working on your behalf. Take out some minutes and praise God for Who He is, what He has done and for what He is yet to do. Whether you’re happy or not, praise Him all the same. Praise God when you don’t feel like it because it is key to handling battles and situations you have no capacity to handle, it is key to handling unforeseen battles. You may not have the voice to sing but anything that carries joy, even if it is a noise, is praise. So, make a joyful noise to God and your life will never be the same. Develop the habit of praising Him and as you do this always, His Glory and Power will be revealed in your circumstances. Like David, tell the devil and all who care to listen that even in despair and disturbed, you will always praise the King of kings and the Lord of lords, the Most High God. Today, put on the garment of praise! So long as you remember that God is the source of goodness in your life, singing praises to Him will be as natural as your breathing. Remember, if the devil cannot stop your praise, he cannot hold your wonderful things. Praise the Lord!
O Lord, I will praise at all times and for the great and terrifying things You have done, You are doing and will do in my life in Jesus’ Name.
